Cold Mountain. With some bird I was seeing early this year. The film dragged on and on and on… and so did she. 🙁
Forgetting ‘Angels One Five’ are we Steve, or had you had too much beer by that point? 😀
May watch The Incredibles later today, definately looking forward to The Aviator and Flight of The Pheonix.
As for the last film I saw, Kill Bill:Vol2- one that needs watching again.
First work, or paid job? Calling the occaisional Prize Bingo games at 6 years old, the old biddies loved it, it was quite fun too.
First paid (barely!) work that I recall was packing hardware for kit boats, sales at various (boat/agricultural)shows, testing canoes, kayaks and annoying the guys down the workshops- at 9/10years old! That was slave labour, of the ‘family business’ variety.
Then working on farms in the summer corn-carting from 14. Cinema manager and projectionist from 17.
I was definately a busy kid!
Fair do Moggy, as you say ‘as you find it’…
I get no problems and good framerates running at 2560*1024 screen res with most of the graphics settings on full, usually get around 25/30fps which is more than enough. I would not even use CFS3 without having the patch installed, it makes so much difference. I rarely use it in anything other than online multiplayer. I do have it fairly heavily modded with extra ‘planes and scenery, and effects. I mainly fly missions, which for the most part are based on historical info, just the way I like it.
Your point re the bridges (and stock missions) I accept. It’s a great shame that it wasn’t more of an update of CFS2, it is rather arcade-like.
Oh, and there are enough variants of Spitfire available to keep even Daz amused for some time!
I can’t speak for IL2, since I’ve never used it, although I may just give it a go soon.
Daz, I’ve had no problems with CFS3, get it working, go online for some real close combat 😀 If you don’t install the patch you are missing out also.
There are hundreds of free addons and ‘hacks’, get bored with flying 😮 ; go get a tank or Destroyer. Aircraft are now landable on carriers too(with a download). If you want anything like realistic(!) flight then the aircraft from ‘1%’ http://www.avhistory.org are well worth trying and a vast improvement on the stock aircraft.
It isn’t that bad Moggy!
(edited for picture size)
VW engines are, boy comparison, quite modern!
Melv
I was under the impression that the VW ‘boxer’ had actually gone ‘full circle’ in as much that it was WW1 era, designed as an aeromotor and used later in cars. It’s use in the Beetle(and others) was due primarily to the need to keep the vehicle cheap and easy to maintain- no plumbing for the cooling, no water pump or radiator to worry about.

Other car engines such as the Mazda rotary engines have proved popular in the USA. I think Peugot are working on a diesel engine based around one of their existing engines. Opel are doing similar in Germany as far as I know.
Motorbike engines are also popular, there are a few home/kit built Europas and microlights flying with BMW twin cylinder engines.
My father was one of those guinea pigs during his national service. Lots of senseless experiments that shouldn’t have been carried out on human beings.
You’re not alone there Robbo. Mustard gas(liquid) and Sarin have sofar been admitted to, what else they actually tested we perhaps will never know.
Some went in the belief that they were testing a cure for the common cold, others being told they were testing a new type of gas mask.
Many didn’t actually have a choice in whether they went to Porton Down or not as at the time National Service types were seen as ‘disposable’.
There is a great deal more to come out of this.
Not to mention various large scale spraying of coastal areas (towns and villages) in (primarily) the south west with various other ‘nasties’ – there was no choice in that for the hundreds/thousands of the ‘public’ that may have been affected or subject to tests.
So the Leo DiCaprio ‘Aviator’ comes out Dec 17…it’ll be a good gauge for us to see how well Michael Mann does with an aviation related topic since he’s apparently slated to direct Tom Cruise in ‘The Few’…unless anyone knows different…but I just came across a link on one of the ‘Aviator’ sites that has Jim Carrey cast to play Howard Hughes in ANOTHER film on the famous aviator that is still being cast as of this moment! That should ALSO be interesting!
Mark
The Aviator is released here in England on Boxing Day in the West End, it goes nationwide two weeks later on the 14th January (previews possible earlier that week), definately looks good.
The remake of ‘Flight of the Pheonix’ is slated for release on the 14th Jan, another to look out for, it’s going to be a good week!
Anyone have any Production pics, or links?
As for the other films I know of with possible aviation content/story are:
‘Sky High’ and ‘Flight Plan’ both from Buena Vista/Disney and expected late October 2005.
KR1 if i remember correctly was the prototype, or atleast very limited number of plans were produced. The KR2 incorporated improvements based on experiences with the KR1. Bear in mind that although the KR2 is said to be a 2 seater it’s not really practical as such, a little on the ‘cosy side’.
I’m not sure if the KR1 is/was approved by PFA or not.
It’s build is along very similar lines to the WAR replicas, wooden box covered in foam and glassfibre.
I have some pics of a KR2 from years ago when I was helping out on a build if they are of any interest.
Be very careful!
Jagan, be warned the film will most likely be ‘nitrate’ base, this deteriorates over time (you can tell by the smell), it can ignite IF it has degenerated and is then exposed to air. The amount you have presents little risk, keep it somewhere cool and dry. In larger amounts it is a VERY effective explosive!
However, having said that I have some on my desk (only about 1 foot) at the moment, it’s quite safe if handled correctly.
To transfer it to digital you will need to find a Telecine facilty who can handle 8mm on nitrate base (special handling licenses are required for this in the UK) onto DV cassette, you then have a master copy. Use this master DV tape with capture card(must have atleast S-Video-out facility) to produce DVD, SVCD, VCD, S/VHS, Windows Media(video) or any other format you need.
Finding someone in India to do the transfer should be easier than finding someone in the UK to do this. Try the processing houses directly, or Post Production facilties -particularly any that specialise in Documentary.
I tell you what, they’re a wierd bunch up in Ramsey… 😉
something to do with being downwind of St.Ives apparently, strange fumes seem to drift from ‘Surftown East’… oh, and being below sealevel of course may have an effect too.
We’re way too far out of range for :dev2: Snapper :dev2: to have an effect, so we can rule him out.
Well come on then Ashley, how’d the interivew go, and when do you start?
And then it’ll be invites to the “special nights” at the cinema!
Already been there, done that :dev2: Special one coming-up for those with a Nomex fetish, or so I am given to understand 😮
…This double whammy resulted in an excessive quantity of wine being drunk when I got home, and the packet of Silk Cut hidden in my underwear drawer for emergencies being raided (I had been really really good for months…even when that naughty Bigglesworth tried to tempt
me…with a cigarette, what did you think I meant you dirty minded people you! :D)Duh!!!
You’ll have people talking Ashley, you know what they’re like around here 😮
S’ppose you’ll be accusing me of force-feeding you with booze in a pub next… :p
I think this thread is fattist and I am going to consult my Solicitor to see where I stand. That is when I’ve finished this 3lb chocolate bar.
EN830 you live in a house with a female, I’d check that chocolate if I were you it’s probably been eaten already… 😀
Dare I ask how the interview went Ashley?
Hi Peter, I have limited scenery design experience, mainly using FSSC, its really easy to use.
Scenery files within FS have a file extension ****.BGL FSSC produces these from the picture you have in the program window. You do need to set the target file for your new scenery for FS.
MDL2BGL simply takes the *.MDL file (from the aircraft you have within FS or another download) and turns it into a *.BGL file which is then compatible with FS scenery. Use this new BGL file with FSSC to build your new scenery. There is a very comprehensive help section within FSSC, there is(or certainly was) anMSN messenger service for support from the author of the software-
Derek Leung.
You can import maps, photo’s or use the supplied textures for the scenery. Build your airfield first, then import the static scenery into that.
Which version of FS are you using?
If you still want to have a go at this then I’d be happy help you test the files.
