Legs too short…and can’t loiter around for long not very good on patrol mission that most intersepters are usually on.

true since this is a rocket based aircraft, it’ll need a air intake and some other things but good for POINT defense interceptor. which is what Mr Distiller seems to be aiming for. It’s got high mach, high acceleration, everything he asked for. It is not in the class of say the MiG-25, but more like an F-104 on steroids

PLAN have been trying out its planned blue water fleet, partly to intimidate its neighbours. Seriously I don’t see that JSMDF is that much stronger than PLAN at any point that the PLAN would have no chance against JSMDF.

Realistically this situation won’t get anymore uglier than this, since Japan have doubts as to if China is willing to act tough like it once had. The reason behind these action Japan took is to prevoke Beijing and see where the chinese draw the line.

There absolutely won’t be any “trade war.” Chinese economy strives on going forward. The Japanese have been talking about withdrawing it’s investment for ages. Please take a look at chinese foreign reserves and you’ll see that the Japanese loans are but a drop in the bucket. But if limited conflict breaks out then the chinese might consider a 100% or 200% levy on all Japanese imports just to put strain on the Japanese industries and covertly pressure Tokyo to come to some understanding where both parties could actually share the resources around the islands.

tough talk on japanese economy when in reality, Japan heavily invested much needed capitol into China during the 70’s and 80’s, just go ask your everyday person in Liaoning how much the investment has helped them, and please none of your nationalistic sunshine 🙂

PAF evaluated Su27 in mid 90’s, very happy with the aircraft but since they would be coming from Belarussia they were turned down.

PAF wants to buy aircraft from producers rather than thrid parties (Mirages excepted) and since the Indians have told Russia not to sell major combat systems to Pakistan, it basically closed the door on SU-27’s.

    Aziz

thank you for answering a question that some people here are unable to comprehend. However if they are really happy, they should consider a 3rd party again, especially with developments in China where they can now produce some of the parts.

hammy, you might wonder why they put so much effort in replacing Russian parts (like engine) while they have much easier another few hundred LULKA-Saturn AL31F engines. Licensing and Chinizing. We hear the same about LCA where the componetns are replaced by Indianzed parts.

Have you ever thought that the Chinese like their parts better than the Russians. The case is simple, they have a contract not to sell, the Chinese are unlikely to break that contract because they’re still interested in acquiring other Russian stuff. Until some kind of rift occurs again, it is unlikely they will risk their relations with Russia to sell new J-11’s to Pakistan, but spare parts may be something else which is why I suggested Pakistan acquiring their Su-27’s from elsewhere. Of course due to your nationalistic insecurities you brought in the LCA when the subject is the Su-27 and J-11

There was such plane in the past but something went wrong. But why buying second hand flankers if they can get brand new J11 in a few years? They are now busy with getting fc1 and industry up and running. J10 will come pretty fast (expected).

Well Diana, perhaps you should recognize the term called “licensing”

I was thinking, what is the possibility of the PAF aqcuiring surplus Su-27’s from other ex USSR states, primarily Ukraine or Belarus, and perhaps relying on China for spares and an eventual re-engining.

Dassault calls EADS tactic as “dirty” and unfair

    By John Goh

Dassault has claimed the EU arms conglomerate, EADS, as dirty and unfair according to a senior executive.

European Aeronautic Defence and Space (EADS) South East Asia, is alleged to have offered executives at Defence Science and Technology Agency (DSTA), a selection of British, German, Italian and Spanish women in order to convince authorities to select the Eurofighter Typhoon .

When contacted, DSTA confirmed the offer from EADS but denied any dealings as they felt that the British women had bad teeth, the German women too masculine, the Italian women were already screaming at them, and the Spanish women as too hairy.

A mass of idiots if I’ve never seen one, you all should be ashamed of turning Harry’s Aero India thread into an LCA vs Gripen match, which in reality is a “over nationalistic mini jet that’s lagging in development vs a fighter that a **** poor nation wishes they could acquire”

that gripen photo is digitally brightened to make it look good and those nice radar
displays arent the mode the LCA MFDs are in.

here’s a duller looking pic that may actually be that of a real gripen cockpit
    http://www.canit.se/~griffon/aviation/img/saab/gripen/gall97/gripen-cockpit.jpg

imo LCA has done a good thing with the colour coded buttons. searching for the
right one among 20 black buttons in gripen under pressure doesnt look easy.

all the eurocanards have a a better HUD than LCA at present, but that can
be easily fixed if the IAF wants…sextant sells that wide-angle HUD.

That’s the JAS 39A cockpit, the nice colored ones are the JAS 39C.
Buttons are nice but making them colored is hardly genious and yes I think the LCA would benefit from a large HUD but the existing displays look cramp as it is, plus a large HUD isn’t all its cracked up to be, pilots have stated that the glare created by the Gripen’s large HUD could be seen far away.
