    Two words: Rafale F2

So what A2G weapons can the Rafale F2 is CLEARED to use, is it as wide ranging as the F-18E’s selection or even the M2K’s selection, and is this F2 even in production?

I agree, and as glitter said, you depend on a country that does not depend on you. US does not have much interest in Greece nor does Greece have any valuable resources like oil for US to grab around. Same with Turkey, in a matter of days can US slap an embargo on both. Turkey would have a harder time, considering pretty much ALL of it’s equipment is US made.

But with Turkey, the US has more strategic interests with Turkey. It’s got a more or less, permanent presence there at Incirlik, positioned right next to the Balkans, Caucasus, Black Sea, and the Middle East, and despite it’s flaws as a democracy.. is what the US advertises as an “ideal secular Muslim state” in an area dominated by theorocracies, monarchies, and dictatorships. And my friend, despite recent Turkish refusal over the American request to launch an invasion from their territory, the Turks have been very pro-US in comparison to Greece.

We don’t need a fighter at all now. Against NATO 100 Mig-29s would be useless, even SMTs would barely be a big speed bump for them. What we need is a high tech air defense system

who said it was going to be used for NATO? Does the air force solely exist to fight NATO? Or is it that you still have some grudge against them? 😮

you guys need a new fighter, and I think you guys deserve something better than a MiG-29 early model.

I don’t see the really big difference with Rafale and Typhoon, similar weights, loads, weapons nonetheless, performance, and costs.

In the future competitions, while countries like Singapore and Greece ALREADY operate F-16s, taking the block60 would be much cheaper than taking the Rafale or Typhoon. When you compare the block60 to Rafale or Typhoon, it already comes with all it’s weapons integrated and such, much like the Super Hornet.

I agree with you here, why buy a Rafale or Taifun when the Super Bug and Super Dart can do the same and do it NOW 😎
at least in terms of capabilities.

As for the Rafale and Typhoon.. some people might like the idea of having less American components in their aircraft, not to mention it being slightly cheaper, slightly more developed especially in A2G, and a whole lot more attractive than what the 4 country consortium is trying to sell..
    😉

keep in mind, it’s nice making 4 countries happy..but it also a high chance of 4 country mismanagement, 4 country conflict over prices/production/etc, which amounts to 4 country red tape, 4 country lack of committment, and 4 country uncertainty 😀

And here I thought the Spanish gov’t knew better 😡 Damn you sexy people.

Effective tanker? Tomcat pilots sure think so 😀

Oh the Tomcat pilots are just bitter that a REAL American plane is taking over their roles, while adding in the tanker capability 😉 .

geez what makes you guys think that the Su-30MK would spank Turkish F-16s? especially since they have an overwhelming numerical advantage with their lawn darts?

Actually, I still think the RD-33 is currently best option, M-88-3 has a while to go and will be

which is why I said M88-2

why would they go in for a Rafale when its price is close to the Eurofighter anyways ? If finances are a reason for the deal getting cancelled, then obviously a cheaper fighter will be looked at, and what better than the Su-30MKX ?

probably because the price is not THAT close and the program is moving at a good pace.

but you’re right, Su-30X, a fast temporary solution.

How bout some one create a CG or artwork of a Flanker in that sexy Greek paint camouflage

My frozen friend, I think the best option other than an indigenous engine is.

    M88-2

ALOT LESS SMOKEY than the RD-33, actually in production unlike the RD-93 and probably better fuel consumption (the latter being an asumption my friend).

It might increase the price a little, but if you want to sell to countries that like western stuff like Pakistan, I say it’s well worth it!

Imagine, an FC-1 and Rafale combo based on the same engine!

No sense buying those now when the F-35 will do the same jobs better in a decade…except air refuelling 😀

Methinks they want an air superiority type machine. For everything else, they have the new F-16s and the upcoming JSF. Save money, buy the FLANKER, irritate your neighbors.

For some reason I thought you were an anti-JSF and pro-Rafale person 😀
surprised you reccomended the Flanker. But you are right, their F-16s are still good enough. If they want to beat the Turks, they best use their football team 😀

Greece wants fighters, not tankers. Ergo the Stupid Hornet is a bad idea. Your “combat veteran” spent a lot of time over Iraq acting as a tanker for F-14s equipped with LANTIRN pods and JDAMs.

now now bender, no need to bash our Boeing champion. Greece is patrolling the Aegean, not flying deep into Iraq or Afghanistan. The Super Hornet is good enough. After all think of it’s opposition.. a Rafale and Typhoon with no A2G capabilities at present, an eastern bloc weapon in the form of the Su-3X, the only other viable alternative is more Lawndarts or Mirages, which are not too bad themselves. Like I said before, Greece doesn’t really need new fighters.. but if they do.. they could sure use one that could do maritime strike, precision guided bombing, decent air to air capabilites, and act as a tanker 😉 😎

good, now the Greeks have time to reconsider an airplane that gives them real strike capabilities NOW, not 10 years into the future 😉
