Using local names for airforces is admirable, but pretty hopeless. Countries tend to name their airforces in their own language (even while we like to use English acronyms like PLAAF or IDF/AF, sometimes in English despite the country’s language like the IRIAF), regardless what other countries call their airforces. If you want to adress the Dutch airforce by it’s proper name, you should call it KLu. If you prefer that in English, it would be RAF. The same is true for Denmark. And just like with the RAF and KLu, lots of countries don’t have the name of the country in their air force’s name. France’s Armée de l’Air, Germany’s Luftwaffe, Myanmar’s Tandam Law, Russia’s Voyenno-Vozduchnie Sily, Israel’s Heyl ha’Avir…

The correct name for the Indian AF would probably be Bharatiya Vayu Sena or BVS, so i don’t think you have any reason to bicker against Matt for using InAF rather than IAF.

Italy’s military aviation started before WW1, and goes under the designation AMI.

It’s definately a crowded museum, but that’s almost inevitable considering the enormous variation they have (Monino and Changping/Datang Shan have the same problem). I actually like that dragged-straight-from-AMARC look on the aircraft (well, lots of displays actually are dragged straight from AMARC), i personally prefer that of the overly polished and clean aircraft other musea like to put on display. Except that DF-8, maybe.

ESM (not ELINT, we’re talking Surveillance and not INTelligence here) is one of it’s functions, but the way it tracks targets is not via the emissions of those very targets. Instead, it tracks targets by the distortion they produce in existing ‘background’ signals. So it can track targets under an EMCON regime, something a pure ESM-system can’t.

The Dutch want two more C-130H-30s to replace the four Fokker 60s, and since Lockheed now only builds Jerculeses, they must be found on the second-hand market.

XV208 is absolutely a good buy at that. It’s airframe has suffered very little, and since all the systems and avionics had to be gutted anyway to make the aircraft compatible with the two current Dutch Herks. But it’s definately a shame to see Snoopy turn into another grey boring blob.
