Steve, you were warm twice (geographically), but Frank has got it correct. I forgot to mention that the top of the pic is the North, so KB would have been impossible as it has much more of a N/S rwy.

Brüggen does look a bit like Laarbruch (both built in the early 1950s under the same contract), but Laarbruch isn’t surrounded by forests (except for the Eastern part), and the shelter areas are a bit different. Kudos for thinking in the right direction though!

Don’t forget trout! It’s as with beef – you can do all sorts of fancy things with trout when preparing, but it’s hard to beat a simple salt&pepper&charcoal grilled trout.

The leaner the beef, the rarer i want it (never had Kobe beef, but i’d probably eat that raw). That goes all the way from carpaccio to goulash. Oh, and i like my grilled steak Vortex-style: salt and pepper will do. I get plenty of marinade-compensation from experimenting with pork and turkey.

As there are no dispersed areas or shelters, because the N/S runway layout is very rare in Europe, and considering the Eastern main runway is extremely wide, i’m pretty sure it’s an American base.

There is a whole bunch of big aircraft parked neatly in rows on the north-eastern apron, giving it a definate military look. If i’m not mistaken the aircraft have swept wings, which nicely rules out Herculeses. But with those two big platforms, i would say that it’s a combined military airbase/civilian airport, with the Western one looking as the civilian side. Looking at the size and number of the buildings on the civilian side, this might actually be a factory… which would make it Wichita / McConnel AFB.

True, but i don’t see Lockheed trying desparately trying to sell Electras, and i believe the Comet was taken out of production when the customers went away.

The 767. Not only because the system already exists (the JASDF uses E-767s), but also because Boeing just loves to keep the 767 production line open, even though there are hardly any more orders for it. They have already managed to sucker the USAF into subsidising their 767 production with the KC-767 deal, it would be nice if eventual follow-on customers would bite too.

As for the 7e7: if the designers at Boeing think that people won’t notice they nicked the design of the nose from the Caravelle, they are mistaken :p

Dispersed shelter areas, looks like a three-runway WW2 layout with one runway becoming the main post-WW2 runway… My guess it’s a former USAAF bomber base in the UK. As i think there are shelters, it’s narrowed down to a fighter base.

That’s enough to get the airbase maps out, et voila: it’s Alconbury! The road running from the upper-left to the lower-right corner is the A14.

It is nice, but it’s photoshopped. The shades on the sanddunes and the Flogger don’t match, and the demarcations between the MiG-27 and the background is a dead giveaway as well.
