    ;

I just wondered what might happen in the future to the east midlands aeropark such as hangers, aircraft etc

There are plans in the pipe line for a second hanger subject to planning. And yes we have been offered a Nimrod but there’s no dates on this yet.
like other collections/ museums we are always on the look out for new and different exhibits BOTH civil and military or parts to complete what we have already in the collection
We would like to see a better shop in the hanger than what we have at the moment, also better displays to RAF Castle Donington and local aviation,
And to those that will say it , yes we still have a lot to do on the Long Marston aircraft.
Regarding these the Hunter GA.11 is back in one piece the Hunter “FR.10” is still waiting it fin but both are being prept for painting.
The Jet provost is together and most areas have been primed. The nose leg was charged last weekend so it sits better.
The Chipmunk has had an undercoat on it and the wing have gone into store, this will be worked on when the sheriff moves out of the hanger in the spring, and if we get the second hanger it will go into it as will the Sea Venom which will not get much work done till nearer the time of the new Hanger.
The Gazelle has had the boom fitted and very little other work.
The Meteor NF.13 cockpit has been painted but needs the piece that fits between the cockpit and the nose cone so this can be fitted.
I am working on the Dove and want to do the ends of the wings and fuselarge before the wings are refitted any body know of any part we would be interested a new canopy would be very good.
Others on site iare also having work done on them like the Vulcan repaint the Argosy is having work done on it parts are being refitted to the meteor TT.20 the Buccaneer has had a main leg recharged and is having a clean the Hunter T.7 is having a repaint and as mentioned earlier the sheriff is really coming on now the tail unit has been fitted and is being painted
BUT THE BEST WAY TO FIND OUT WHATS HAPPENING IS TO COME AND HAVE A LOOK !!!!!! 😉

Thanks to both for your responce. It came to us via another museum and they no nothing of its history . Since we got it nothing has been done with it as with most museums space has been a problem but with the new building on its way up there is a chance it could go together.
This was the first attempt to find out about who may be able to help as l have seen threads on here about gliders and so know that there are people who know about them on here.
So where might l find the construction number is it a plate on the body or a stamp.
Also are there any differences between a civil eton and a military tx.1

    Hi Twin Otter
It would be nice to find a photo of her in the early colours there are photos around of others from the fleet one of G-ALFT which wore the Dayglo on the Air Britain site from 3/4 front so we can guess the front a little.
There is a desciption on another site that says the fin is dayglo but this is not obvious on the Air Britain photo we also know that the cheat line is dark blue but which? dark blue.
We have managed to get a cockpit door but there are a lot of other things required

    Hi Atcham Tower
thanks for the suggestion post placed

Does anyone have any photos of any of the M.TC.A., C.A.F.U Dove’s on the inside so that we can see what we need to make it more complete on the inside please. She is fairly empty inside and it would be nice to fit it out as much as possable. In the rear of the plane there is a large loom of cables which must have gone to a rack but l can’t see were it fixed any info would be great

The Drover is unique in preservation outside of Australia.

It requires someone dedicated and able to overcome the numerous problems it has. I had hoped that our museum would be able to take it on, but it was not to be – as it stands, we have neither the space to accomodate it, or the time (and money!) it requires to rebuild it.

    Bruce

    Hi Bruce
when you talk about numerous problems what sort of problems are there as l have never seen this airframe and just wonder whats required to make it fit for display.
Is there no way the BAPC could help or is there no chance of getting sponsership it would be a shame to loose this rare aircraft and the DHM WOULD be the right place for it we may be able to store it if that would help

My experiance of these things is that they work a little like an old brake shoe system on a car, only this is a drum within a drum, the inner drum is fixed and has the air connection to the bladder on it. The bladder then sits around the outside of this drum and the shoe fits astride the bladder with the tabs on the back going through slots in the drum then the bits of shaped steel that you have fit in the slots in the shoe and a spring fits central between the metel and the drum to hold the shoe off when not in use hope this makes sence. As for the number required if you have the inner drum then the number of slots will give you the number of shoes.
l have used masking tape on the pads to hold the fibres while l work on them maybe you have a different method hope this helps

Museums, yes. Been there. Done that!

Businesses? I don’t think the general idea is for businesses to work and sweat for nothing.

which museum was that then ?

As a ex museum member you will understand how the preservation world is supposed to work, in an ideal world when a museum closes it would be nice to think that other museums get first call on the airframes so that the security of the airframes can be secure, in this case its nice to know that the Drover is SAFE even if storage has not been found yet? the Sea Prince is I think another significant airframe and I hope it has or will find a good home.
In the past I have bought things from Barry and I know he can be sympathetic to aircraft preservation groups I found him nice, and easy to work with when chasing vampire parts, BUT as you say he is a business and his time has to be payed for and the people that keep museums going are joe public they would not travel 150 miles to see a Drover or know what it is but in our world it is significant.
We spent time freeing bolts before we organized transport all it takes is one bolt that refuses to come out and then the pressure is on, see the posting of millom regarding the move of the canberra, I know that it was also time constaints put on by BeA, but time as they say is money this is were becomes a commercial decision.
The other side to this type of situation is the smaller items I understand that when the Wales collection was closed thing were skipped because who cleared it had no use for them and some parts were only saved by other groups collecting thier parts and finding them hope this does not happen here

, unless there is someone out there who likes to work and sweat, for nothing.

Is that not what most museums members do !! and how museums manage to buy aircraft with falling gate figures and rising running costs. If they had to pay people to dismantle and move the cost just keeps rising we at East Midlands have just moved a collection and it was not cheap and all the dismantling was done by members and a few friends.

    hi michael
yes l have seen that one thank you, this is the later colours which she wares now. What we are looking for are the colours she wore when she first entered service in 1954/55 or when she had dayglo added while mapping Scotland.

    regards dave

p.s if you go on historic and enter G-ANUW you will see the responces there
