THE B-1B and B-52 are mud-movers dropping the huge stores of Mk-82 500lb dumb bombs the US has, but 30 SDB each individually guided to specific targets in a small area would be devastating. Remember that sensors will vastly improve in 10 years, maybe the bombs can detect the heat signiture of tanks, or attack radiation from radar or even have target GPS guidance continuously udated from up to the minute intelligence from a UAV.
I think that this country is Norway.
I would actually also start with 48 JAS 39 Gripen, Sweden will happily sell to its neighbor.
Then add either C-130J or A400, but A400 more likely.
A large Helicopter is needed for seach and rescue, thus Ch-53E, and maybe the S-92, or EH101.
For Maritime, I would buy 6 used P-3Cs from the US. Get some Israeli Gulfstream AWACS, and finally get some Dauphin or Panther helicopters, for martime patrol, search and rescue, and attack.
@ Distiller
I don’t know about you, but most people consider the F/A-18 E/F superior to the J-10 and Su-30 MKK/MK1/MK2/Mk3.
@ Sharmaji
If the US is really going to fight China, it will hold its airpower back. In ten years, The US will send 4 SSGNs, and 20 SSNs (688I, Seawolf, Virginia), a couple of DD(X) and Arleigh Burkes. They will pummel the S-400 and S-300 batteries with Tomahawks. I don’t think China has enough S-300/400s stop the 600+ tomahawks on the SSGNs alone. Then after Chinese airfields and advanced airdefense systems are decimated, in go the bomb truck with their pricisions bombs and Anti-radiation missiles to kill the rest of the AA batteries.
Any talks about exports?
If the cost doesn’t jump like that of the F-22. There will be a lot of JSFs around, but otherwise, the Russians/Chinese will dominate the cheap plane arena.
Heyy guys, I am not kidding you that the F-2 cost $200 million USD. First off, Mitsubishi pays Lockheed Martin $30 million per plane just to be able to use all of the LM ideas and designs. Then Manufacturing in Japan costs a lot more than it does anywhere else in the world. BTW, If I could buy a F-2 for 150 million Yen, I would. With the current exchange rate it would mean that I could buy and F-2 for a less than 1.5 million USD. I based my numbers on the US getting 18% workshare, worth 4.1 billion USD, for 130 aircraft.
Not as cutting edge as I would have expected for a $200 million Japanese plane, I would have expected something like a hugh 20 inch MFD, a holographic HUD, and a voice recognition system for arming weapons and controlling radar instead of buttons. Or at least a touchscreen for the functions.
I would have to go with the F-35 on both occasions. The F-35 has so stealth so it can sneak up on the F-15 when both have AESA Radars. But with AWACS the playing fields are leveled more. The only advantage that the F-15 has is that it can launch 14 AMRAAMs at the F-35, while the F-35 only has 8. But then I don’t think that it takes that many AMRAAMs to kill any fighter no matter how stealthy or manuverable.
You mean they are butt ugly. But they were good planes.
Get the Gripen, it is cheaper and arguably as good as Eurofighter and Rafale. Outside of those planes, I would get Nimrod MR. 4 for maritime patrol, and Phalcon for AWACS. You could probably have the Israelis mount the Phalcon on an Airbus. A good SAM is a must. But the only high performance SAM outside of US and Russia is the ASTER 30 and I am not sure if there is a land based version of it. Finally, I would try to buy some stuff from the Israelis, it is practically like getting it from the US.
Taiwan supposedly has a huge airbase in Eastern Taiwain that is built into a mountain. built just like Star Wars.
There are plenty of A-10s, but some are being upgraded now. The F-15E was designed for “grunt” work. Every plane does CAS when called upon to do so.
