I intend to be buried in an airtight lead coffin, with the tomb shaped as a WW2 u-boat. It will be all buried in a not too remote location. I intend to be found at some point!
Inside will be me; wearing a Roman centurions helmet, a leather jacket, and a tutu. I will be carrying a loaded Luger pistol, have an unstrung English longbow and a quiver of arrows, and a newspaper from around the turn of the 20th century, open on the sports page.
Couple that with a very charred wiring loom (including something vaguely like a flux capacitor) and a couple of bullet holes in the coffin, and it should keep the archeologists busy for a while. I’ll be forever happy knowing that long after my conciousness has departed, I’m still upsetting people. :diablo:

Fair enough. The only comparison we could draw with another manufacturer would be with Chrysler Turbine Car really.
As for other Rover products… if the turbine had continued development after T4, what else would they have used? The amount of wierd and wonderful ideas that came out of the Rover factory anything could have happened.
It wonder if anybody got anything out of Spen King before he passed away regarding Gas Turbines?

pagen,
Nowhere did I say they were worthless or silly; but it does make you wonder why when they were pushing the technological advances with the P6, they left a steering box and six ball joints in there… especially when there is room for a rack. They then took a BIG step back with the SD1…
I’ve done quite a number of miles in P6’s (and the SD1) so I’m not that biased… we got rid of the last P6 of ours about 3 months ago.
I wasn’t trying for an argument regarding “which is better”. I know what I like, but I’m smart enough to acknowledge other good cars when I see them – even if I don’t choose to own one.
Moggy,
I think some research was done a few years ago using micro-turbines in a way similar to that which you mention. I’ve seen mention of something similar in car magazines, I’m sure of it.

as you mention the horizontal front springs (there is no physical connection between the front wheels until aft of the engine bay),
Keeping those springs compressed while removing the rocking levers is scary business, even with the special tools! Six ball joints on the steering alone? What were they smoking when that was drawn?! De dion elbows and tubes that corrode from the inside out…
About the only thing that was a really useful idea was large split pins to secure the front shock absorbers… that made life easy.
Thats why I left the P6’s to my brother and kept playing with my big Jags!
On the subject of the turbines themselves, I’ve seen the odd Austin-Rover Gas turbine used as a fire pump. I think the Royal Navy were a big user of them at one point.

T4 is quite a car. You can see the bits that crossed onto the Rover P6; which is where it inherits the rocking lever front suspension, and the horizontal coil springs.
I know they came across various problems with exhaust gas temperature, and the lag between throttle input and the car’s speed changing, making it unsuitable for town driving at the beginning.
I believe they managed to eventually overcome most of the problems involved, and got the fuel consumption down to something resembling that of the V8 Rover P6.
Quite an achievement!
I always liked the look of T4, the lower lines of the nose always looked more pleasing to me than the bluff front end of the P6.

Don’t worry too much, I think we got away with it. I was just trying to find some clear borders!

What was always difficult for me in art classes (Yes, I did. I failed..) was coming to realise that while a rough drawing in pencil has an outline, objects in real life don’t!
I get more enjoyment from doodles, as they’re not serious. Blue_2 has just set me off drawing a Victor, but I don’t have a pen the right shade of hemp to colour it.
