I just knew you were a weird one Mr Buckle…
Firebex – as and when you need us, I’ll drag as many guys along as I can from 963’s crew to help. Just let us know when and where we need to be.
Regards,
Rich
I for one would love to hear KB976’s story. Any chance you can tell it on here?
Regards,
Rich
I have some friends out in that vicinity who have been asked to check her out and see if there’s anything of any use left on her. Fate is a strange thing, a war made her last longer than a lot of the others.
With a bit of luck there might be something we can use.
Maybe someone’s finally doing something about XF700?
Great pictures!
I can recommend the books on WR977 (Duty Carried Out, and Dedication to Duty), they are a good read and one covers the move in some detail.
That’s why I need to use 960 as a reference for 963. Inside the starboard undercarraige bay on 963 there are several pipe runs that aren’t quite right, making life more difficult than it should be. While the AP’s show where a pipe runs from and to, they don’t show an exact run, so photo’s of them in original layout will help immensely.
For others that want to see them (and for those that are just curious), here’s the weights of components and dimensions for the MR2:

Rich
I need a mission over to Manchester to have a look at some of the plumbing in the undercarraige bays. She does look exceptionally well looked after!
I would guess the MR3 is quite heavier in certain areas… how much so I don’t know as I don’t have the AP’s. In terms of overall dimensions I don’t think there’s that much difference.
You should have an e-mail shortly!
Rich
No worries. They’re on the scanner now.

For the MR2/AEW2, its AP101B-1702-1B1 Sect 2 Chap 4.

Got it here at the side of me and can have the relevant bit scanned in a few minutes if you want?
As Pagen says… any chance of letting on which one?
Regards,
Rich
Pagen
John Mepham the Flight Engineer at Culloden worked on WR963 at Coventry for some years whilst Promotions Officer for the Shackleton Association.

John still visits WR963, his last trip up was just before Christmas last year.

Just make sure you’re available on the 26th Mar with your paintbrush. I’m not painting all of it myself. Even if it is indoors…

That’s great news Rich, were the missing parts ever traced and returned?
Apart from the control wheel on ebay shortly before it was discovered to have been done I don’t think so.
TwinOtter, I’ll have a look in my collection when I get home. I could be mistaken as to when it was printed as I have a few of the magazines lying about.
Rich
Thanks for the link, I’m definitely having those!!
