That is one sexy color scheme! It will be interesting to see whether any of the countries that have now bought Su-30s go on to add Su-35s to their fleets.

No, mate, but I was at university with a bloke who was being paid for by La Legion Etrangere, because he’d been invalided out after an injury he got in Tchad. I remember him saying how disgusting some of the water tasted when they had to rely on purification tabs.

Of course, on base they could buy Evian or whatever – but it wasn’t flown in on military transports, it was bought from a local importer, who had it trucked in from the coast. Y’know, even Tchad has such people . . .

    Yes mate.

Definition of not knowing what one is talking about:

Definition of stupid: Transporting water by air instead of getting it locally.
Definition of stupider: Flying water with military transport planes.
Definition of stupidest: Flying water in bottles with military transports.

Award yourself a Naval Gold Medal . My point is yes A I is with us, but hey it certainly lacks when judgement or imagination is needed.

Why a ‘Naval Gold Medal’? I am not n the navy and this has nothing to do with the sea.:p

Water does not have to be flown in to most places. There are such things as purification tablets, filters, solar stills etc. Even in the most arid desert, no sane person would fly in water from another continent.

And as has been pointed out, the French have proven themselves able to sustain forces of the size being discussed, in the places being discussed, for long periods, with Transalls & a few C-130s. The A400M will give a huge boost in capability over what has already been proven enough to support such a force.

You have obviously never watched thousands upon thousands of bottle of drinking water being unloaded from transport aircraft in Afghanistan or Africa then:rolleyes: The C-17 would provide an even greater boost.

Why would brazil be stupid enough to buy chinese aircraft? The budget for the purchase is decent enough to acquire a good proven fighter. If 2.2 billion is the budget then it works out to $ 61 mil per plane with all spare and support. This would rule out new F-15 or F-18 or Rafale or typhoon. The only Viable option in that case would be Su-35, Gripen and F-16 blk 50.If second hand ones are considered then probably F-18 and F-15 can also be considered.

    + Mig-35.;)

And that is lifted by military transports in that country and all the other people there too. You can buy what is in place already. But I am shure, that is not the amercian way. I will not be surprised to learn that for their troops they will transport soda and toilet-paper around the half globe.

looks like you will be surprised then.

The header is a bit misleading. Although the R.1 is deployed, none of these aircraft mentioned were R.1s.

    ooooops, my mistake.

Oh really? It’s 600 metric miles at most to the drop zone + they’re using light AFVs and not MBTs.

So what you think they are going to fly them there and just leave them there? I assume that you have a basic understanding of logistics, you know human beings need things like food and water?

What happened to SMT’s and UBT’s enlarged spine? Were there any aerodynamic penalties? Originally it was claimed that MiG-29SMT’s swollen spine does not affect flying qualities (Y. Gordon’s MiG-29 title). Also, does anyone know if current MiG-29SMT feature increased thrust engines?

The spine is just a bolt on fuel tank, its optional.
