I couldn’t be bothered trawling all through this thread so I’ll chuck my two penn’orth in here. I reckon you could get 80% of 4X4s off the road if the prospective purchaser had to justify their need for said vehicle.

I had a Fiat Panda 4×4
I used to intimidate lots of invalid carriages (you remember – the blue ones?) and some Reliants.
I got intimidated by lots of ‘Hot Hatches’ – now there’s a subject for debate. What is the point of a (insert mass produced family car) GTi or RS or Turbo. These cars are designed to take the family into town or to the supermarket. Why put a powerful engine in and make it a weapon for the brainless. I can’t see any USE for a ‘hot hatch’ so perhaps they should be banned. They’re not particularly carbon friendly either so why don’t the green mafia attack them instead of aircraft (and 4x4s).

I see no reason for televisions, music players, alcohol, games consoles, furniture etc etc etc etc…….maybe everything should be banned.

Rafale- it is being sold in a world of massive gbargaining power from the EF consortium and high quality Flankers from Russia, as such Rafale is struggling to compete……..it may also be the case that the Typhoon is the better aircraft. The Indian MMRCA is really the types last hope on the export market, if it does anything other than win it is finished especially now it looks possible that Japan will procure the Typhoon.

Leclerc- By all accounts it is a very good MBT (possibly the best yet put into production), however it is facing the Leopard at the high end, the Leopard has every single ace in the packet at the moment, it is an established market leader, the German Army is selling of second hand versions at reasonably low cost, and it has proved easy to upgrade and those upgrades have had a lot of investment.

On the naval front the French have been quite successful having sold a number of Frigates and submarines despite stiff competion from Germany and increasingly spain as well, they are also showing a good design development path on their naval products.

What is the unit cost of typhoon when compared with rafale? Wiki gives Rafale at euro 47 million while typhoon is quoted at 88 nillion.

This has been discussed a million times and as yet a viable answer has not been produced, needless to say Wikipedia is not a reliable source and at the very least I would have extreme doubts about the figure for the Rafale.

Sounds about right. Thing is most 4 x 4 drivers think they are bomb proof in such vechicles, most dont even know how to drive the properly. I saw someone killed this evening in one ! the front of the cab was totally crushed.

It is not just 4 x 4’s and it is absurd to say it is. Any new car, irrelevant of size feels safe and gives very little ‘feel/perception’ of what is happening outside. To say this is just a symptom of 4×4’s is madness.
