Its remarkable that two survived into museums, and a nose section (Farnborough?) as it is. Many ’50s & 60s projects (Supermarine 547, Saunders Roe rocket/jet, P.1154 etc) didnt have any survivers.
The truth is nobody will ever know how good the aircraft would have been in service, it looks typically ’60s lead sled and is a massive aircraft. We might not of had the Jaguar and Tornado IDS, both manouverable and good at their job, and the RAF might not have received the Buccaneer and Phantom, if the TSR.2 made it in to service. The Vulcan and Canberra probably would’nt of remained in service for as long as they did, read 607 and imagine if the same thing could’ve have been done with TSRs.
I love the TSR.2 for what it was, and Im glad there are two nice ones to look at, and a few kits to build of it.

IIRC the original design of the USS Enterprise had a Talos launcher. The British CVA-01 design had a sea dart launcher as did the Invincibles. Space was one of the big issues with older systems, hence it was removed from the invincibles. Recent improvements in radar minaturisation and VLS cells have changed things a bit with the best example being the CdG, a very well protected carrier. The CVN-21 will get SPY-3 and a 16 cell VLS for a total of 64 ESSM’s, a better AD setup than the new Norwegian frigates, or in fact most small frigates for that matter.

That sounds like the attempt to fill the remaining empty space in front of the radar antenna with a special gas that is ionised when a current is put through it that absorbs all frequencies of radar waves. When turned off the aircrafts radar can be used, but of course modern radars spend most of their time listening rather than sending…

The plasma screen would stop the radar from both transmitting AND recieving. however IIRC a while ago an article was posted here about Russian stealth inwhich it was claimed that the Russians had figured out a way of making the screen flash as the radar transmits and receives…………dont know how true it is though.

No this is a missile designed and tested in the late eighties by the Soviet Union. High Mach speed with 2 warheads and a very long range. However it was huge and would have required a specially built Tu-160 to carry 2 of them internally.
