Sealord – Exactly how many Islamic terrorist attacks had we suffered in the U.K before the Iraqi invasion ? A great many people in this country objected to the invasion – whether you agree with it or not not everyone feels that the ballot box is effective. Couple this with the coverage of Guantanamo Bay
and Abu Graib where clearly people and their faiths were abused and you can clearly see why young impressionable people would get radicalised.
I think your being very naieve in suggesting that everyone feels that democracy is their only voice – we indirectly supported the terrorist/freedom fighters activities in Afghanistan under the Russian regime . Now we are getting the same treatment and it’s hardly supprising that Islamic youth feel they need to support them .
Keep living your Western utopia dream as long as you can!

Democracy= Freedom, thus democracy that is how you make your protest against government policy. What you are doing is validating the mass murder of innocent men women and children and that is disgusting.

You may have forgotten but Afghanistan was not a democracy under when the west was supporting the ‘freedom fighters’.

If you realy think that there were no attempts by Muslims to launch terrorist attacks on the UK prior to the invasion of Iraq then you are uninformed to the point of ignorance.

You mean the western dream where women and homosexuals are free, where there is freedom of speech, where 16 year old girls are not executed for being abused by their fathers, where we are not rounded up and slaughtered for coming from the wrong race- becouse that seems to be where we are right now.

The bottom line is that you support the murder of innocent people in order to create your fantasy Islamic state.

I reckon a far better candidate to be a “British B-29” would have been the unbuilt Short S36 for the B8/41 spec, essentially a stretched “super-Stirling” with four Centauruses (Centauri??) Almost B-29 sized, but unpressurised and a lesser payload.

    Interesting, thanks Scouse.

Bex – do you think having Gerry Adams having his voice dubbed had any effect on countering terrorism. I watched it as a young person and thought it totally absurd! As for Liberals and Political Correctness contributing to Islamic terrorism – I think the main factor in all this was invading a soverign country
with excuses for doing it that vaporise as the years go by.
Terrorism isn’t something new and it’s something that we as a nation has supported in various parts of the world . An unfortunate fact of life is that
terrorism is easily exported and we are now feeling the effects.

Wrong answer. The United Kingdom is a democratic country, thus if you have a problem with the policy of the government of the day you have the right to lobby that government, protest against it and vote against it. If these methods fail then you have to accept that you are not going to get your way. What you do not do under any circumstances is kill innocent men women and children in order to get your point across. Trying to blame the invasion of Iraq for these attacks or 7/7 or 21/7 runs contrary to the democratic values that form one of the corner stones of modern western society, and is thus sick and perverse.

Thanks for the reply, I must admit that I am kind of hoping for a stiff defence of the Windsor, it keeps things interesting.;)

Are you saying IN would not use trenton as LPD and wait till a disaster strikes to use it???Thats pretty much what you have been hollering in the last few posts.

No its not, where have I said that that is all its going to be used for?

Read the topic. Here let me repeat it for your slow comprehension.. ” India and Future Amphibious ships”. Saipan fits the bill and that is exactly what scooter meant. Not if saipan can be acquired next time tsunami strikes??? I was just pointing out that Mistral size is what IN would be aiming for

Yes trenton is the beginning of Indian amphibious capabilities because how IN trains on the trenton will determine its future capabilities. It is not going to be docked till the next tsunami strikes. Comprende senor???

Troll. The post was phrased as a question. I pointed out that the Trenton was procured largely to support humanitarian operations and that it is therefor difficult to see it as the beggining of a major amphibious combat capability. Then you resort to insults.

Indian public statements indicate that INS Jalashwa will have both power projection & humanitarian roles. Captain B. S. Ahluwalia, when taking command, said she “will be used to police and protect India’s numerous outlying island territories and could provide humanitarian relief in natural disasters”. Looks as if he thinks transport of troops & material to remote islands as the primary peacetime role, & rescue as a secondary role. In his speech at the handover, the Indian ambassador made no specific statement about the future role of the ship, but mentioned both the humanitarian role of the IN, & said “we have always been conscious of the vital need for a strong maritime defence”.

It will give the Indian navy experience in operating an LPD which can be carried over to any new ships India obtains. The value of that experience will not be diminished by the ship being used for humanitarian purposes. For example, the IN has never owned a ship with a dock before. Experience in operating that, & operating landing craft from it, will carry straight over to any new ships. Crewmen transfer between ships, & the IN, like other navies, deliberately cross-posts to spread knowledge.

India already has an amphibious force. It has operated Indian derivatives of the Round Table class for many years. The IN has commissioned 5 new & improved ones in the last few years. Jalashwa is a step in the expansion of the amphibious force, not the beginning of a new force.

The Indian naval attache in Washington, Commodore Parasurama Murugesan, said “we needed this class of ships to meet our requirements in the near future”, so it’s clear he thinks it’s not a one-off.

Yeah becouse the Round Table class are a shining example of power projection ships.

We will wait and see, like I said I dont doubt that India will pursue such a capability but I think it is far too early to say that the Trenton is the true begining.

Yes and scooter actually meant that saipan would be great addition to IN for typhoon/ tsunami relief.  . The question is about amphib capability so stick to that.
I seriously hope english isn’t your mother tongue .:D

Funny becouse his first post does not say that. Even if that was the case maybe you could explain why he was asking about Indian amphibious armored fighting vehicles? Clearly both issues were on his mind.

The last sentence is just a classic example of trolling.

WHo said IN would do so? They would definitely use trenton to learn how to handle such a large LPD but that does not mean they won’t use them for humanitarian assistance or will attack anyone. The ship is too old to go through something that rigorous.

Are you looking for a flame war? The vessel was procured for humanitarian rather than military purposes so it is very difficult to see it as the beggining of anew Indian amphibious force (That seems to answer the question that started this thread), However I dont doubt that India will eventually pursue such a capability.

“To use a union style quote “Britain united can never be divided” ,Lets not let a small minority beat the 99.99% of our fine and multi-cultured land.”

It’s too late for that, far too late. I live in an area where I am the minority, the white man who has lived in the same house for 46 years. It is slogans like “whites must die” that we get painted on the street corners, spray paintings of Pakistani flags with crossed Kalashnikovs underneath. Gangs of Asian youths stopping people entering and leaving certain streets. Mention this to the Police? “We don’t see any evidence of that sort of behaviour” they say. Probably because the Police don’t patrol here and are always slow to respond to emergencies.

Much of the crime here is actually drugs related and involves both Asian and white youths. But with Asian Elders refusing to condemn any sort of criminality by Asian youths, one can only wonder whether, for a few, there is a darker and more sinister purpose to this leniency.

The sad fact is that that is true. There is an unwillingness to tackle the problem that Islam presents because it brands itself as a religion. The reality is that there is a very large element within the Islamic ‘world’ that is violent and whos beliefs run contrary to those that western civilization has developed over the last few centuries.

    Yes they did, why?

Because that fact undermines the idea that the Trenton is going to be turned into an all out combat vessel for landing troops on defended beaches.

Mconrads, re the Sea Wraith, I will see what I can do.

Fed / Ja, a mate of mine attended the Meko Group meeting in Europe and they discussed different CIWS fits (mostly Phalanx, the Turks with Sea Zenith, a few people saying they had looked at Goalkeeper and a lot of discussion about missile based CIWS).

The Turks praised the Sea Zenith system to the skies in open discussions, but priivately admitted that it was a maintenance nightmare, partly due the mount being overly complex and partly because the vibration Fed mentioned was hard on the cabling and mechanicals.

    Unicorn

I have heard exactly the same things about the Zenith. CIWS development is very interesting at the moment. I have heard several people say that the ideal current combination would be RAM and the 35mm millenium ahead turret. The USN is intending to use the 57mm bofors gun as CIWS on the DDG-1000!
