But by and large it does work.

No it does not, maybe you could explain rising gun crime in the UK despite some of the worlds toughest gun laws?

It works. In here its practically impossiple to get licence to handguns without being deactivated. Licences to other guns aquires that you are either sports-shooter (like myself) or hunter (or othervice working with situations where you need a gun). In order to proove that you need to belong to a shootingclub or hunting club. In big cities getting in shooting clubs is quite difficoult and its almoust impossible if you aren’t really a sports-shooter. The strickt gun lawas works, murders and homicides where shooting weapons are involved are rare (all murders passes the newspar).

Its impossiple to get a gun for the basis that you are right to carry one or “selfdefence”. In fact I find all non sports shooting guns in civil use repulsive. Guns are made for one thing solely, exspecially handguns and thats is to kill people. Civil persons have no rational reasons why they should be allowed to carry weapons that sole purpose is to kill fellow citizens.

If you wish to shoot, begun to sportshoot, its one hell of a hobby. If you wish to kill, start hunting…or running around without any meaning and shooting everyhting for just the pleasure of shooting, buy a PP gun…or join the army:p

Thats all lovely but you have failed to mention illegal firearms, do you seriously think your average drug dealer is going to ask for a licence for his gun?

It’s patently ridiculous to try and claim the prevalence of guns in US society is not part of the problem. The more guns there are, the more chance of some of them being misused, and until US public opinion faces up to that simple but (for some) unpalatable fact, the problem will not go away. Of course it’s ultimately the responsibility of the person who pulls the trigger, and no one would deny that, but unless and until you can control every nutter or criminal in the country (ie never), surely you should at least make it much, much harder for them to get hold of a lethal weapon. If the gun lobby claims it’s not the weapon but the person holding it that’s the problem, would they be happy with states like Iran and North Korea having WMD’s?

Sealordlawrence, please don’t keep putting up this “anti-US” smokescreen. It really isn’t like that.

Gun control does not work. Britain itself has proved that. Read the article posted above. Furthermore where did the guy who shot Jill Dando get his gun from. Persecuting innocent people who use guns sensibly and carefully within the confines of the law, for the actionsof people who completely disregard it is absurd.

The most amusing thing about this is that people think that if they ban guns, the sheer illegality of them will stop them being used. Apparently criminals dont commit crimes.

I wonder if anybody here would care to comment on how many gun related murders actually occur with already illegaly held firearms?

For all the british posturing about how great they are at controlling gun crimes maybe they could explain this?

Yes, Ikara’s shape has always made me discount the idea of a combined launcher but the idea has popped up here.

    http://p216.ezboard.com/fwarships1discussionboardsfrm3.showMessage?topicID=5849.topic&index=3

Now if Ikara had been more ASROC in design…..

Would you mind keeping us updated on this? I have never heard anything along these lines before but I am very intrigued. 2 things come up though.

    1) Under-deck space, the launchers themselves would probably be able to take Ikara but I can not see the magazines being compatable and it would probably be a nightmare to have two very different magazines feeding one launcher.

    2) If it was going to be used it would probably have been on Bristol and it wasnt.

I have never seen a dual purpose rail launcher for the RN, I imagine that the underdeck magazine space required for Ikara would make such an enterprise very difficult. I have seen mention of proposed box launchers for Sea Dart that would potentially be able to hold both missiles. However, remember that Ikara was an akward shape, nothing like ASROC.

Ps. The below thread does not answer or assist your question but if you are looking at this sort of area you may find it interesting…….

Guys don’t get this thread into some gun control debate. I simply started it as a place to say a quick prayer about the victims and their families.

Please respect my wishes and discontinue the gun control debate….

With pleasure, however I doubt the willingness of some of the previous posters to surrender their anti-American ranting opportunity.

It amuses me that you think somebody who intends to break the law by killing someone will not break it by aquiring an illegal firearm.

In the 21st century you dont need your car, your phone, your computer etc etc. Lets ban them as well.

So in your opinion the 9/11 high-jackers are not to blame for their actions, it was the fault of the planes for being in existence.

Guns do not kill people, people kill people. Blaming gun laws for the actions of individuals does nothing but absolve those individuals of responsibility for their actions.
