The Meteor should be a superior weapon to the AIM-120C, and it will enhance the EU aerospace industry, as well as what sekant said. It should also be a viable competitor to the later AMRAAM variants that are now being worked on.
This chinese manufacturer website contains an image of the J-10, this particular company works on radars amongst other things. Could this represent a slow officialisation of the J-10 project?
I understand that one small asian (I believe it was Bangladesh) country recently sighned a deal for a new F-7 variant, Nigeria did the same not so long ago. It goes without saying that the F-7 is still a viable fighter against airforces still operating Mig-21’s and 23’s but what level has the F-7 reached.
There is a new J-7 variant called the J-7G, with the double delta wing, and two peice windshield, it has been seen carrying 2 PL-9Cs and reports say that it can carry 4 of said missiles. If I remember correctly there were two radars proposed for this variant, the KLJ-6E and the SY-80, the latter appears to be getting a lot of publicity (showing up at various exhibitions), this may be a hint that this is the radar used. Either way this development makes the J-7 a formidable low cost fighter, for those facing a limited air threat.
Are the new Nigerian and Bangladeshi aircraft to be equiped upto J-7G standards?
Which radar does the J-7G use?
With the gowing threat that the PLAAF is becoming to Taiwan (some 300 J-10s are likely to have been built by the end of 2010) combined with Taiwans difficultys in aquiring adavanced weapons from abroad the re-opening of the IDF production line may be a good idea.
The Litening 3 LDP has already been ordered for the Typhoon.
Now they just need to fund the Conformal fuel tanks and more powerfull engines. There is no doubt that the Typhoon represents an at least equal and most probably superior srtrike platform to the Rafale.
Wont happen. The french verbally offered the Rafale, out of politeness John Reid said he would seriously consider it, and then the low quality journalism of the facist mail on sunday took over.

According to the above janes article the AL-31FM1 is the new AL-31FN production standard.
Sorry that was a typo, I meant SK not SM. There has been no chinese order for the SKM.
I can see at least 1error in that article straight away. China has not ordered the SKM only the SM. Every other article I have seen for this engine deal states that the engines are for the J-10.
The Chinese AL-31F deliverys are expected to end in 2010 (based on current orders) the 250 mentioned in stealths very accurate post above are in addition to the original order for 54, so by 2010 it is likely that some 304 engines will have been delivered.
The new 150 engine deal is for the AL-31FM1, a version with increased thrust and 3D TVC (the same nozzles used by the Mig-35). This would certainly seem to suggest that the WS-10A will not be fitted to production J-10s until at leat 2010, if at all.
As for the J-11, this a bit more obscure. There is a series of pictures floating around that claim to show a J-11 flying with 1 AL-31 and 1 WS-10A. Im not sure what the status of the indigenous systems the chinese have been developing for the J-11 is (radar for instance), but these may give a clue to the status of the WS-10A for the J-11.
Then of course there are the perpetual rumblings of a twin engined J-10, this if it is being worked on, is probably the most likely candidate for the WS-10A, as there are no Russian engines ordered for such an aircraft and all the current orders are required for the vanilla J-10 variants.
It is just a suggestion on my part, but the the engines of the Typhoon and the Tornado have very similar sizes and I believe that a Tornado flew with EJ-200’s as part of that engines test programme. I did hear a rumour onece that the UK MoD or BAe had considered re-engining the Tornado F3 with EJ-200’s but I dont know if there is any truth to it.
If the Tornado is to serve til 2018 I would like to see a further upgrade with this AESA radar and EJ-200 radars, with the new weapons systems intergrated with the GR-4 this would keep the Tornado at the high-end of the worlds strike aircraft spectrum.
I was under the impression that the Plan was to use Russian 2500hp engines?
I did not state that they will have 72, just that they can have 72.
