You reguarly see J-10’s and other chinese aircraft for that matter, all rapped up, the reason appears to be two-fold. Firstly to protect the aircraft from the elements and secondly to hide unit numbers. Of course it would be better to put the aircraft in a hanger but this wouldnt allow people to photograph them and post the images on the internet (the chinese authoritys use a very clever system of ‘leaks’ to disseminate information to the public).
The aircraft in the background is very interesting, but had the ejection taken place whilst the aircraft was in flight one would not expect to see the aircraft at all-it would have crashed. For that reason I believe that one of two things happened, either the ejection seat was fired accidently or it was being ground tested.
There is a rumour floating around the Internet that this is the 100th J-10 but I cannot confirm this, we will just have to wait and see. What is certain is that the J-10 programme is well under way and production appears to be high rate.
What is it with Suckhoi and designations, we now have Su-27BM, Su-35, Su-35BM, T-10BM and now Su-27SM2 for what appears to be just one aircraft.
For the 052C’s radar there are basically three possiblilitys, all of which are equally as likely and equally as unlikely.
1) A navalised version of the HQ-9’s HT-223 radar.
2) A PESA based on tech from the Ukraine combined with indigenous developments.
3) An AESA design, again probably with Ukrainian tech.
Unfortunately there dosnt appear to be any conclusive evidence.
The fact that mig is part financing the test programme for the MFE suggests that the likelyhood of the BARS-29 ever flying on an operational fighter is next to nothing. The MFE’s specs are far better and there is no evidence of Mig cooperating with NIIP or of flight tests being undertaken or planned for the BARS-29.
Wow thats realy impressive, the Indians can track a ship that is on its delivery voyage, and that everybody knows when and where its sailing. :p
Just had a glimpse at the January 2006 edition of Janes International Defence Review. According to which the Zhuk-A will fly in 2007 and will be able to track 30 targets, in comparison the Zhuk-MFE can manage 20 and the Bars-29 just 15. The Zhuk-A will be able to track fighter size targets at 200km, in comparison the MFE has a range of 120km and the Bars-29 100-120km. All in all quite impressive specs.
BAe claims that it is possible to navlise a Typhoon and that they have done studies to prove it. But BAe says a lot of things. 😉
My opinion, AAW ships were the ones most in need of replacement in the last few years, the cold war re-eqipment cycles being responsible for this. But you are right there is a general theme towards stronger AAW defences, I believe this is down to a fear of land or small boat based ASuW missile being deployed when ships are on power projection missions. If a major warship was sunck by a somalian firing a an old Soviet missile (a purely hypothetical scenario) there would be a massive political storm.
I also think there is a further political reason, more VLS cells and more missiles look like more of an improvement, whereas a new Sonar that knowbody sees dosnt appear to be as bigger improvement as it actually is, Thus it is easier to extract AAW equipment from the Bean Counters than it is ASW gear.
Just my 2 cence.
Cheers Fedaykin, and thanks for your very onformative contribution in this thread. It is nice to hear things from the people who are up close, what they realy feel.
Did the predator and and global hawk deals involve technology transfer? If so can somebody provide a source? becouse if they didnt then its irrelevant becouse the technology from the two american products would not have been absorbed by EADS, in fact they probably wouldnt even have access to it.
Im trying my best but the chinese dont tend to be that open about there military developments. I would assume it is an indigenous development rather than an import as we have not seen any reports confirming the import of a radar for the FC-1.
Hey steve I have no problem with at all, in fact I think you are onef the best posters here, I just disagree very strongly with you on the T45 issue.
I belive that the F125 will be similar in size to the F124, so possibly based on the Meko-D.
The Meko-X looks unlike to get any orders in its current configuration, due to the requirement for any customer to fund the development of the radar as well as the ship itself but I would not be surprised to see it built for export customers in the coming decades with of the shelf radars.
Here is a link for the new Dutch ships,
http://www.naval-technology.com/projects/dezeven/
they have the same radar fit as the F124 but have 40 mk41 VLS cells with space for a further 8 and mount a better gun, thus I would regard these ships as more capable than the F124.
Here is a link to the spanish F100 class ships. They mount the AEGIS SPY-1D radar which as I have explianed before is likely superior to the radar of the F124. It also has 48Mark 41 VLS cells as opposed to the 32 of the F124 and has a better main gun, so it to os superior to the F124.
The very fact that you have resorted to calling me a kid merely shows that you lack the knowledge and the skill to maintain a civilised and educated discussion.
Probably older than you.
You seem to be confused again. I would suggest that the T45 and the F100 are relatively closely matched but that the T45’s ability to take future upgrades gives it the edge (and possibly the sampson radar as well), but both are far better ships than the F124.
