The Type-23 will not be upgraded to carry ASTER series missiles as this would require an extensive rebuild, which would probably cost as much as buying new warships. In fact to put it into context, the VLS cell for the seawolf are the same as the ones used for VL Mica-the Aster 15 is significantly larger.
SteveO, you are usually a great and well informed poster but on this issue you just seem to hate the T-45 without giving a reason why.
The T-45 cuts was announced as part of the last defence review, you should know by now the MoD will try and save money where ever it can. The T=45 is more affordable than anything you have proposed.
The Zhuk-MFE does offer significantly better performance than the BARS-29. The Zhuk-A should be even better.
Bars-29 would be a big mistake. Flight tests have already begun with the far superior Phaztron Zhuk-MFE and Phaztron is powering ahead with its AESA devlopment with the Zhuk-A shceduled for flight tests in 2007. The Bars-29 on the other hand has not even begun flight tests. Its only possible advantage would be commonality with the Su-30MKI.
The Vixen 500E is a true AESA radar but it is not intended for aircraft like the Typhoon, it is a light fighter radar intended for aircraft like the Mako, LCA and T-50. Personally I dont think it would be suitable for the Mig-35 and it is looking more and more likely that the Russians are going to offer their own radar.
The usage of a western Radar would certainly make the Mig-35 very capable (but whos to say a Russian AESA wouldnt do the same???) but it would also pose some interesting intergration and weapons selection problems. For instance A2A missiles and othr armaments.
It is highly unlikely that the Russians will put an Israeli radar in the mig-35 when they are developing their own AESA.
Ink, the article you posted dosnt even make sense. The Mig-29 has never flown with the Koyponor has it even been considered as far as I am aware as it is a small nose radar. The MRCA isnt an upgrade its a whole new plane. Frankly that article is useless.
Simply pointing at a picture and saying if you look at it they could have made the hanger a double one dosnt count as evidence. That would be detailed design drawings showing that it would be relatively easy to do without major design changes that would increase cost.
The article is very specific on the radar being the Zhuk-M
Are there any details on the Marlin, or is it just a rumour at the moment?
A bit dissapointing realy, they are going for the Zhuk-M when the far superior Zhuk-MF is currently undergoing flight tests. Looks like they are just going for a variant of the basic SMT2 with the exception of the foreign avionics nothing special realy.
Discussing the breaks of seals and the end of inspections does not amount to making a bomb, why dont you read as I suggested.
I hate to have to break this to you Sens but the UN institution in Vienna is just a collection of diplomats bringing the opinions of their governments, not International law.
You realy should try reading the Nuclear non proliferation treaty, you would find it a fascinating read and may even give you enough information to make an educated response unlike your previous one.
I say again, to break International law in regards to Nuclear technology Iran actually has to build a bomb-as yet it has not.
The US has been pushing for a more wide reaching treaty in regards to this matter (the current one effectively allows a country to build all the required infrastructure and industry to build a bomb within months) but as yet there have been no takers.
I never said that they werent going to build a bomb I was msimply pointing out that to actually break International law they have to build a bomb, which as yet they havnt done.
My personal opinion is, if they get nukes so what. Israel has them.
The new president may have made a few comments about destroying Israel, but in reality it is probably just talk, at the end of the day if he Nukes Israel Iran will dissapear within minutes. If you want Iran to not hav nukes take them of Israel first.
Indeed you are right Sekant, but at this stage Iran has yet to cross the threshhold so to speak. Personally I would be very surprised if the UNSC went that far but who knows.
