This is the worst Bendy Bus thread ever!

Religion. It’s just an argument over who’s got the best imaginary friend.

Have you seen those stupid losers on the God-Squad channels on Sky? They are as fanatical, poisonous and dangerous as the very religious leaders the USA is trying to eradicate. Clearly mentally ill, and clearly out to brainwash the gullible, to make money.

I like religion, simply because the Churches / Cathedrals etc. are usually the most beautiful buildings in an otherwise boring city, when a tourist.
That beauty is borne from money taken to assist the poor.

Hi all, I have a question some of you very knowlegable chaps on this site may know the answer too. On the Castle Bromwich supermarine factory does anyone know what shade of blue paint they used to paint the guttering collector tanks that were connected to the down pipes ?? I have been asked this by a friend who was too shy to post this himself !!!!!!!

    Thanks, Steve

Wow, if you get an answer I’ll buy a pint (If I ever meet the person).

……and, I bet a lot of guttrin and fences in the Castle Brom. area had the same colour:cool:

    The Austrians for the music.
And Spanish Jesuits to do the spying.

An EUforce! They can’t even do their “Battlegroups”!
No EUforce with homogenous equipment in our lifetimes.

No no no! We can bend the rules, like Eurovision! Israel can do the spying!

Austria can do the music on New Years day, from that council house in Vienna:). Well, I watch it anyway.

Even with all the graphite epoxy being used by the US aerospace industry, the golf club industry still rules the market for graphite materials.

Are you talking tonnage of production or value of production?
The Golf clubs use a different spec. of fibre, with a different resin system and a different method of manufacture. They are expensive too because golfers will pay through the nose for a set of bats that they think will improve their ruined walk.
Also, the bats have to withstand an impact load whilst deadening the spang from going up the arm of the golfer. It it breaks they can throw it in the bunker.

There are no bunkers at 35,000 feet, nor fire engines.

    …and don’t forget the Chinook.

There are two schools of thought on this..

    1) Replacement engines (so 8 out; 8 in) possibly technically the easiest but the scope in terms of savings (fuel/ maintenance etc) is more limited and so capital versus saving shows a low return.

    2) Re-engineering the propulsion system. I.e replacing 8 engines with 4 engines. This involves far more in depth study of the initial design parameters (8 engines) and how the change in engines (to 4) actually affects the wing structure and so forth.

In addition there are all of the interaction issues that need far more work going from 8 to 4, from new pylons to the interaction with all the aerodynamic controls.

Unlike the KC-135 programme where the number of engines remained the same the change from 8 to 4 for the B-52 would alter a basic design parameter. Its not to say it cannot be done, merely it worth it.

I think he means put 8 new ones in.
……but nobody is making those anymore. All engines now are by-pass fans, the old gas-guzzling true “Jets” have gone.
A by-pass engine that would fit in that nacelle would be a tiddler 7,000k thruster from Honeywell or similar. Not powerful enough. The nacelle would still need a redesign anyway, for the inboard reverse thrusters (Outboard wing engines don’t have RT because they are usually over the grass and can suck up a whole lot of mess).

ok im not going to sit on the fence their both equal in the fact that they will never ever in a million album sales be as good as or play as well as IRON MAIDEN. Ive seen all three live n maiden just absolutely kicked butt:D

IM are indeed better, and even though they are British (We produce the best rock…..erm, apart from maybe classic Springsteen before he sold out), they are actually producers of racket and din, with a rhythm.:diablo:

Mrs. 91Regal’s devotion to a well known TV shopping channel has resulted in a retained image on the screen of my 3-year old Toshiba LCD. I have been told that there may be ways to lessen or even eliminate the effect. Do any of you knowledgable Forumites know any of these tricks ? – and please don’t say that the best trick is to buy a new tele, ‘cos I can’t afford it.

You may have to buy something……unless you know someone in “Software”. There are DVD’s of Software that you can buy which re-calibrate every pixel on the telly or Computer telly.
Pixel Fixer or something, it was called. About £30.

    The Brits to fly it.
The Germans to do the paperwork
    The Italians to cook
The French to cook sauces (Because that’s all French cooking actually is…Horse in a beautiful sauce)
    The Swiss to negotiate
The Irish to build the dromes
The Belgians to run the bar
The Dutch to run the entertainment
The Poles to work for the Irish
The Scandinavians to do the maintenance.
    …who’s left?

    Well, you did ask. 😎

    Correct.

Of course it isn’t a real picture. It is a CGI

Unless Boeing produced a tanker with that type of wing ?

The picture was released, as I said, somewhere around the year 2000 on the USAF or on a manufacturer’s website, and taken down very quickly. It was either a prank, or someone goofed up, as the “new” version was cropped so not ot show the black plane.

The picture of course got reprinted in a couple of magazines at the time..

Not quite yet. You will be seeing this sort of thing pinging off the CADCAMs in a couple of years though.

I have an unclassified report in my flies about the flying hours of the B-52H (the sole model remaining in service).

As of 1 July 1991 (yes, a long time ago, but the planes were then “just” 30 years old)..
The average flight time on a 52H was 12200 hours and 1400 cycles.

The same report said the limiting detail for H’s were the wing upper surfaces at 31,200 hours and they would have an economic life beyong 2030…or two-thirds of their life was remaing.
Remember, this was after thirty years of service.

So, using those figures (60 years past 1991), they should be good until 2050 (= -).

That report is in our library too. I think a commentary in the report stated that the B52 will be the first 100 year A/c. Obviously not the same machine but from 1st flight to retirement, the “Type” will do 100 years.

Oh, and with Concorde gone, the B52 is probably the most beautiful aircraft in the sky. IMO.
