I lived and worked in M/cr throughout all those days. One of my regrets was only going to the Hac once, and I was too pi55ed to recall who was on.

He’s going to be called a El Presidente Chav isn’t he.
Or, to paraphrase some footy commentator in a World Cup some years ago……..”Off you go, Hugo”

Mind you, Ella Fitzgerald once sang at The Benchill.
Get OUTTA Here!!
I do know Wythy all too well. Went out with a Baguley lass for a decade.

I don’t recall. Tis an old a5 sized navy blue hardback with no dust cover. I’ll dig it out once I’ve completed my move.
The book goes into detail about the Goverments attempts to find a diplomatic solution to the issue.
Yes, only during the time it took us to convert cruise ships to grunt carriers, arm up the task force and send it.
There was a perception that the navy aircraft carrier was no longer needed and they were only a few signatures away from being completely withdrawn from service and scrapped. Then the Falklands flared up.
Yes, we were about to sell an old “Through Deck Cruiser” but the ship that was in the headlines was Endurance, IIRC they were about to sell or scrap that.Thatcher did react very quickly, taking the Argentinians and, from my perception, a lot of the UK public by surprise. Not that the latter had wanted anything else other than direct action.
Maggie, I hated nearly all of her Political decisions, but once the Sovereignty of British Soil was under threat she was the best leader since Churchill, and nobody has matched her since. Argentina was surprised for two reasons, (a) it’s 8k miles away (And the FI weren’t even on the BBC rotating world icon on TV!) (b) The upper class of GB has/had many ties with Argentina via the Horsey stuff like Polo. All the public I know were 100% behind the task force, there were a few decenters and IIRC a small protest in London but it was an outrageously statistically significant majority in support.I was on duty on the day the Belgrano was hit, just before she fired on one of our surfaced Subs. Once a ship is down, fellow sailors feel it. The Sea then becomes the enemy of the survivors. The Sun headline next day left us all a bit cold, even though we knew that asset had to be removed off the water.

I saw TC live in Wythenshawe “Golden Garter”, twice. Is that flea pit still going?
I think I have seen all his TV shows, including the final.
One of my all time favourites, I can never tire of watching him. A perfectionist in every way, even the ad-libs. A clip from 1962 could be played alongside the same trick done in 1980 and the ad-libs and moves were spot on time.
And he was of course in the inner sanctum of the Magic Circle, and I loved his double-whammy tricks where he got it wrong on purpose only to be “Surprised” by the object appearing in a place it shouldn’t have been.
It slightly annoys me when I get Emails of TC one liners, most of which were not his. Even though they are amusing, they are not his.
These were: –
“I was in the attic with the wife…..filthy;dirty;covered in cobwebs…….but she’s great with the kids”.
“I backed a Horse at 10 to 1, it came in a half past 4………………..it was so late it had to tip-toe back to the stables”.

Crank: High Voltage
Mayhem and madness with Jason “The Stath” Statham, kicking much ass in downtown LA. The first has become something of a cult classic already, while the second ups the madness ante considerably. As funny as they are violent and OTT.[/QUOTE]
The man is God. From Snatch upwards (To pardon the pun!)

Being flung up onto the back of a huge Clydesdale this afternoon and feeling my hips move about six inches the wrong way!
I’ve just made up a whole new story.

If Mrs Creosote were to buy me, say, a new drill, I’d consider that a “treat.” Isn’t that the same kind of thing? :diablo:
Depends, if it was A B&Q Chinese special, it would be an insult. A Panasonic or similar would be a treat. Makita are not that great, the repair lab near me is full of Makita and Black n Decker. R Kid put me onto Panasonic drills, he’s a builder and uses it 11/7. On one charge.
