    It’s not “Marty Crain” but the voice is similar, I remember the house split episode though, marvelous…..

    Voice similar, face similar. But that episode must be 1965ish, about 40 years before the Frazier….which would make the Frazier “Dad” about 20.

    The young man who asked me to dance at our local Irish festival this afternoon.
    I didn’t even know it was grab-a-granny day.

    Maybe he was charming you, because he thinks you have an attractive daughter. As an ex predator, it’s one of my tricks. 🙂

    That’s not to say that he actually may have fancied you.

    On the basis that Mother Nature never makes mistakes….we are here as the dominant species. That comes with responsibilities, and management. We need to manage our close environment – like killing wasps in the loft. But we don’t want to wipe them off the face-of.
    We are also only here to reproduce and replace/expand ourselves. Which is great, because sex is rather good so the more the better.
    The problems that we bring are probably a natural means of balancing out. Yes, even stuff like WW1 and 2. If there was such a thing as a great creator, you’d think “It” would make us in a more peaceful light. But no, we actually like killing – which stems from our need to survive.

    The A330-200 is a direct competitor to the 767-300ER and has been around since 1998, so how can it be the closest competitor to an aircraft that hasn’t even flown yet? :confused:

    I never rant. You got me mixed up :-). Emotions aside, in this case it is my mortgage.
    I daily analyse the Cost of the Aerospace & Defence industry. From a $0.02 Washer to a full A/c or Air-Platform and Tank/Vehicle/Munitions. Manufacturing mainly, the Non Recurring is 2nd place in my work (But I do look at it)

    Nightmare liner. I’m glad my nickname for the A350 is catching on…..even if it’s been used on the Boeing!
    6% overweight is linear to fuel burn, by that is not the issue. The tanks are full so less distance is covered. But that’s not the issue.
    The Dream-on weight is about 470,000 pounds MTOW. 6% is 28,000 pounds. 140 lots of talking baggage can’t go. That’s a lot of income, gone.
    Or, a lot of fuel that can’t go. So the distance claims can’t be met.

    To operate this aeroplane at present would nearly be as expensive as Concorde.
    The Centre-box problem was not due to “Understrengthening”, but the fact that they had not understood (Nor did Airbus on the A400) the fundementals of making Class 1 CFRP structures on a big scale for Airliner sized platforms. Airbus may get it right on the A350, that is if the A400 team ever get to know the A350 team, presently one may as well be speaking Marsian.
    CFRP Spars and other Class 1 stuff is OK on small dumpy Fighters/Bombers, where a stubby wing has 5 Spars and can take +-15g. And, to top it all, the crew have a mummy handle to run away if things snap.
    20% weight saving claims on CFRP structures is nothing more than an academic lie. The design has to be so different that the 20% is soon balanced to zero because where the metal had a Step for say a rebate, you now need a 1:20 ramp. The ramps are made of interleaved ply pieces, you can’t plop them on like pieces of cloth. (The shear calcs won’t allow it) This almost removes the possibility of getting the things made quickly on a machine.
    So, you have some Spars and some Skins (Covers as they now seem to be called) made of CFRP.
    A few heavy landings later (Not heavy enough to report as such)…..the cracks, which start from the INSIDE of the structure by delaminations cannot be seen until they go with one twang. Metalwork can be inspected very easily, with a shufty-scope and a torch.
    The Fibers, they burn at the temperature of the Sun but the resin will go jelly at temperatures not much higher than you kitchen cooker can get to. You’d better hope for no engine fires.
    There is so much metalwork still needed (Ribs, all u/c fittings, lightning path plates etc, the buttstraps, main attachment fittings etc. etc. etc.) one may as well have kept with metal anyway.
    Basically, CFRP is sh!t for passenger aeroplane Class 1 items, it is 10 fold the price to manufacture (And please don’t argue with me on this because I can bury St Pauls in the figures proving it) and we cannot make it as fireproof as we want to. CFRP is better off staying on Class 2 or 3 Panels and skins, u/c doors, nacelle doors and the like.
    Embraer is still making metal A/c.
    Airbus Military have had a shock. Then Boeing, now Airbus Civil are suffering with the A350 (No. some lessons have not been learned) and Bombardier will suffer on the C series.
    Every manufacturer is jumping on the plastic band-waggon and all are GROSSLY, in fact offensively, underestimating the weight and the cost.

    It just needs a wipe. So did your bum by the sound of it.

    I flew on an ex Aeroflot Tupolev, it had been white emulsioned on the inside as a paint job.
    The emergency door (I was sat next to) hissed until 10k feet then iced up around the inside edge. Now, I know it’s a plug door, It cannot blow out. But, one would expect that even a basic tyre-kicker maintenance programme would check seals. I was then more worried about what else had been missed. I was glad to swap aeroplane at Sofia and get on a 737.

    Yes, that was a good one! Question, the American in that clip….Frasiers Dad?

    My favourite Steptoe’s were the central heating fitting (Collected from a school). 3 inch diameter pipes all round the house..6 inches cut off the doors to let them in! The hot water even went through the four poster bed!
    And who can forget the room being divided in two, with the telly right in the division. Son. “Turn over, I’ve got my rights on my side” Dad..”I’ve got the nobs on my side!” Class.

    Oh, and when he crimped the edge of an apple pie with his false teeth. And dropping the pickled onion in the bath (He was in it)….and of course fishing it out and eating it. So many classics.
