I pop my nose in once a month or so, purely to see what nice new treasures Air Ministry has exhumed from the garage and to see how the Stirling Project is coming along.

All 3 of the projects I am involved in now have threads bubbling away nicely over on UKAR, and while it’s not what this place was, it’s better than nowt and at least there’s enough footfall and feedback there to make it worthwhile.

I’ve just popped in to check if the Norwegian Blue parrot still has a pulse, and to my surprise it appears that indeed it does, albeit faint.

The way this forum went saddened me, it was an absolute goldmine of information and some of the banter being flung about was priceless. I used to (mis)spend hours on here, but not now.

UKAR has provided a new home for my Meteor and Chipmunk project threads, and if the visitor footfall counts to the threads are to be believed it’s a very worthwhile place to host such things indeed… but it just doesn’t have the ‘feel’ or the knowledge base of the old Key forum, which I miss.

Anyway, all the best to you all for 2021…

I noticed a lot less people visiting the Meteor page after the first shambles, then the square root of bugger-all people were visiting after this latest abortion of a forum was fielded. Hence I “took my custom elsewhere”, very reluctantly. What’s the point in spending my time writing a post for a forum where nobody is going to see it? At least over on UKAR it still gets a decent footfall and, along with running a Facebook page as rightly mentioned by SMS88, is for that reason worthwhile putting the effort in for. The footfall on here, or rather lack of, made it no longer a good use of my time and effort quite frankly.

A once thriving hub of the aviation community has been killed off. Do the decent thing and bury its bones.

A-M, that’s the badger! While missing the brackets it looks a lot straighter than the one we have for 788, so it’d be spot on for making one good one from the two after a simple bracket transplant.

50 posts on the new, improved forum? Have there been 50 new posts in total yet?!

I’ll send you a PM. Just because I’m always up for new and interesting experiences and it’s one aspect of the new comedy forum whose delights I haven’t yet sampled…

The post from May 8th, the first item got me thinking “that looks familiar”. I reckon it’s a Meteor NF starboard side cockpit glare shield.The bracketry on it being the snapped off GGS breaker and engine fire button (topside) and snapped off fire warning light (underside) mounts. The torch hook is on it in this pic.

Laurence, the Lincoln ‘stuff’ I have. The panel was a nearly bare wreck, missing its upper port quarter and likely removed from a fire dump airframe. The only instruments left in it were the oil pressure gauges!

It’s now a much happier thing, with lights working off the appropriate switches as you can see.

I also have some assorted period Lincoln paperwork…

And have built an RAAF Mk.31, with an RAF one in the pipeline

All this Jim and I corresponded on regularly. Sadly, he’ll not get to see it finished…

Thankyou for sharing these pics with us. I’m saddened, as we were formulating a cunning plan for him to possibly attend one of the Newark events in 2020, and I was going to bring the Lincoln instrument panel I am restoring and some other Lincoln stuff I have for him so see. Sadly, it was not to be…

I just bobbed in to Historic to leave a comment about the sad passing of a friend from the good old days there. Cue tumbleweed…

While I do still keep a weather eye in here in case anything interesting does pop up, it really does have the feel of a sinking ship. As has been said, the Powers That Be at UKAR have set up a Historic section, I for one am interested to see how it goes. It certainly suits our needs, and it seems the admin there have sat up and taken notice of the influx from here, and have acted accordingly. This can only be applauded.

With a similar attitude and responsiveness to us the users by those behind this mess of a forum, things could have been so very different here… But anything done now is a day late and a dollar short.
