I would have thought the BoB Memorial Flight would do a better job at this than a Tucano in fancy dress.

If the Tucano guys want to do this as a tribute to their predecessors of 1940 good on ’em I say.

Blue_2, that was a coincidence. Here’s a picture of the ship that was lost, albiet in happier days. I wonder if the witness you spoke with has shed any light on the accident?

Next time i’m down there I shall quiz him further and get back to you. Thanks for posting the pic 🙂

    Vulcans- ‘State Of Play ‘thread

Peter, given Chox’s attitude to your good idea, may I suggest you set up the Vulcans- state of play thread anyway, then any forumites involved with a preserved Vulcan or visiting one can share what they know/can glean about any given airframe? That way most info would be ‘from the horse’s mouth’ rather than sourced from whispers and rumours.

If you look at the pics on the link I posted one on there shows it back on it’s gear but still with the tarp over. the tarp is made of a darker material down the sides, but a very much lighter material over the actual cockpit itself. Does that un-bemuse you at all? Or just muddy the water further?!

Isn’t that a slightly elitist attitude to aircraft preservation- Those that can, have; those that can’t, tough?
The Vulcan is a unique case in that it has such overwhelming public affection and support which keeps it going, albeit only just. That’s something that many other eminently worthy classic aircraft just can’t command unfortunately, nashio966 can tell you that I’m sure. The Vulcan, as with many of our fine museums, is funded by what enthusiasts and Joe Public can give from the heart. Not by what can be raised from a syndicate.

    Pope/ Shack shameless cash-in opportunities

Can just see the ad slogans now-

-Nashio966-Official supplier of ASW aircraft to the Vatican!

    -Shackleton- the ‘plane of Popes…

-If God’s not watching you, the AEW.2 is…

And the CD’s of the sermons recorded,

-Blessings from the Bomb Bay, Vols. I, II, III…

    And accompanying publication

    – The Shackleton AP’s- Far more riveting than the Da Vinci Code…

    Coat time methinks… 🙂

I think CD’s got it- looks to be a tarp with the light shining through (Bear in mind how bright the sunlight will be, reflecting off the snow). You can see the tarp sagging in the gap where the canopy would be, between the ‘screen frame and the beginning of the aircraft’s spine if you look carefully.
