I have no choice anymore , my local stockist of Flypast ,WH Smith’s in Bathgate (West Lothian) no longer stock it or AFM , so I’m stuck with Aeroplane Monthly
Sad news Crobato , condolences to all the families involved.

I heard somewhere that the engines in the Concorde are of a different dash number and is not compatible to an installation to the vulcan.
Accurate info as usual Peter !!!, the Olympus engines fitted to the Vulcan and Concorde are not interchangable .
I think if you contact Castle Air Museum at
cam@elite.net
– this is an old address so I hope it still works , you will find that the museum have never been contacted regarding using the aircraft as a test bed , and has never been surveyed with a view to flying her. NASA , the USAF , Navy and Army and anybody else in America have all the high speed delta data they need from operating the Shuttle and more recently using the re-engined TU-144 ( is there one of these destined to do a last ferry flight into an American Museum??) .
Considering how long the Vulcan has been out in the open air Jeremy has worked wonders just getting the 115v systems back up and running
I emailed the Museum 2-3 years ago when this rumour first came to light. If I can find the reply I’ll post it ( it’s on my PC at home somewhere ) , it was quite funny if I remember correctly
I completely agree Peter , I for one would love to see all these remains up here in the MoF at East Fortune , but that won’t happen – but there must be a Museum out there somewhere with the cash and will to at least semi-build a static Lanc ??
Maybe the Flypast sponsorship money has been put to use for better things , such as private registration numbers so we can spot the Flypast corporate limo at airshows – making it easier for us minions to spot the Flypast management – anybody suggest a suitable registration number , and guess how long it takes for this thread to get unravelled

Possibly a missunderstanding here.Using a makers plate on a car to change it’s identity is known as ringing and is illegal.
The process in the aviation world is called restoration. It basically means that you build a new aeroplane using a few small original components, and call it the restored original.
It’s a process that gets many aeroplanes back in the air and without it airshows would be much much duller, but as it isn’t used to change identities or sell aeroplanes as something they’re not, it isn’t a problem, and isn’t seen as illegal.

Yup , I know this Willow , we’ve had this argument on the Forum time and time again , we all have our own opinions on the matter so we should agree to differ as the thread will turn into a flamer !!! , regards.
If you do manage up here Ashley drop me a mail and I’ll meet you through there . Bar lunch at the Glen Golf Club is on me.
Wow , your opening an old can of worms here !!! , incidentally the same practice in the car industry is called “ringing ” and is illegal.
The Museum has been busy on the last two weekend when I’ve been through , the restoration hangar is looking good , hopefully I’ll meet Mr Leyden when I’m through on Saturday – I’ve been trying to get a decent photo of the two Spits together , but my photographic skills are 5hit – this is my last attempt !!!
Ant ,
It was me who was told by a MoF Volunteer on Sat 19th that the Comet was going to be scrapped , I mistakenly thought that it was Mr Leyden I had spoken to , I have apologised to Mr Leyden for the mistaken identity , attached is the return Email from Mr Leyden.
Dear Alaister
Thankyou for the Email.
If you can give me a description of the member of staff who told you that
the comet was to be scrapped, I will quite happily hang them from the comets
tail. The comet is not being scrapped and we are presently preparing a
conservation plan for the aircraft. At some point your kind offer may be
taken up!!!!!
I have passed your tug inquiry to the curator who will be in touch with you.
On a more general note, the MOF will be going through a period of
significant change over the next few months and we will be resolving who
willbe giving talks. the web site and other such tasks over the next few
months. If you have a requirement for any information etc then please
address all correpsondence to me here at the MOF.
I am very keen to meet all supporters of the musuem, so if I am around the
next time you are in just ask to see me at the desk and I will pop down.

I think that if you call Matt Potulski or Laura Wetton – the General Manager at OFMC , she will confirm they are not bankrupt and she would be the first to know if they were . Even better ask Damien Burke – if he doesn’t know it then it hasn’t happened . I know this may have been a genuine mistake but try to verify any information before posting it on the Forum. Rumours like this do not help a respected company like the OFMC .
