    Looked OK this July . . .

Looks ok from behind the chain , 12-14 of us had an opportunity to have a good look under her a few months ago ( I believe there is a bad photo of us in front of the Vulcan on the Forum somewhere ) but she looks decidedly crusty on the underside. 🙁

    Alastair,

Yes and no. VERY unlikely in the short term, but probable in the long term. Hopefully, within a few years this will be achieved. I just hope the Vulcan doesn’t collapse on someone in the meantime!

I think we may have to arrange another meet-up to have another poke around under the Vulcan ?? , is your diorama finished yet ??. 🙂

Ageorge – I hope the overall effect is one of increasing interest in Scottish aviation as a whole. I certainly think an ex BA H.S748 would fit in the collection or indeed a civil Wessex. There are a number of ‘holes’ in the collection that desperately need filling and in some respects I think the museum should review what they actually have. Machines like the Criquet are certainly interesting but relevant to Scotland? The collection dearly needs the single Pioneer from Cosford and a number of other aircraft spring to mind.
    I live in hope!

I have to agree David , I would have liked to see a Wessex next to the Whirlwind – unlikely now the Whirlwind is back at Yeovilton. For now all I would like is to see all the exhibits undercover in leakproof storage — unfortunately this is unlikely to happen either .

Brand new aircraft or rusty old buckets of crap.

Concorde was ALWAYS a historic aircraft.

Even when it was first built.

Also agree with everything Radararchive had said about East Fortune.

Just wish they would wake up and smell the coffee really.

Bang on Scott , give the APSS free reign and boot some of the others out – I thought our troubles were over when “you know who ” went , bring back Adam now !!! .

There were experiments with war weary B17 and B24s , if I remember correctly B17’s had the cockpit removed so the pilot could bale out after take off , the B17s were then steered towards their target from another B17 – one of these blew up over SE England killing the pilot – he was a member of the Kennedy family ( as in JFK Kennedy ) . I’m sure there is somebody out there with the full accurate story ..

I agree with Robbo , the Concorde at EF is a millstone round East Fortunes neck . There are plenty of other airframes needing attention – the Beaufighter for example – bought a couple of years ago and it is still scattered around the hanger . I would like to have seen the money spent getting the Comet and Vulcan under cover .

Mike J hit it right on the button , the show is over , lets just concentrate on preserving them , especially the one at East Fortune .

Melv , the new metalwork looks excellent , too good to paint – what about polishing it instead of painting it ?? 🙂

In the best case, the aircraft would not be able top pressurise and would simply turn back.
Worst case: As the Cabin Pressure is initiated and stress builds around the holes they could tear open into even bigger holes… with the rush of air from being inflight then tearing the plane apart.

This is what happened to Pan Am 103. The Bomb blew a hole in the fuselage and the rush of air ripped the plane apart.

PAN AM 103 was pressurised before the side was blown out , if somebody holes the presssure cabin on the ground the pilots will get a warning that the cabin is not pressurising AFTER TAKE OFF and they simply have to land , the plane doe’s not pressurise fast enough to cause any damage via existing holes – it just wont pressurise at all .
