A bit off thread, but can I just add my ‘welcome back to the Forum Keithmac’ tuppence.

To those who don’t know, Keithmac has in the past contributed some fascinating and very helpful threads on matters mechanical (with diagrams) to help enthusiastic numptys like me. Keithmac, your threads were appreciated and missed!!

Keithmac attended the Scottish Forum meetup and gave an excellent presentation on the Tornado , I know he has a “Big Bristols” presentation – be nice to see during the next meetup – maybe when Setter is over here ??

Nice pictures, Alistair! The classic lines of the Comet 🙂

I have 2 better ones but I need to shrink them down a bit so they will fit on the Forum . The worlds best sub hunter/killer 😉

“For honour and fatherland”, in case someone was wondering.
Is the middle one a Tornado, and the final one a Buccaneer? At least that’s what i make from it.

Oh, i merged this thread with the other MRA4 thread you posted Alastair. In case you wondered where it went.

Thanks Art , I messed up when I posted the first set .

We had considerable discussion on this subject about a year to 18 months ago. Having worked on both types of engine I can assure you that a properly maintained sleeve valve engine is just as reliable as any poppet valve engine, and you don’t have to check and reset valve clearances every couple of hundred flying hours! Checking and resetting valve clearances on a radial engine is one of the most time consuming and tedious jobs an engine fitter has to do, and if you get it even a little bit wrong the performance of the engine suffers big time! Give me big Bristols any time!

Welcome back to the Forum Keith !!!

Thanks for the compliment, but I wish I had the cash!

I did have a look at some of the items, but the cost of delivery would have been too steep for me (about £40) and I don’t have the money to pay the kinds of prices the items were fetching.

Having said all this, if the items go to a good home where they are appreciated and, hopefully, are on public display, I’ll be more than happy. Even if it’s somewhere too far away for me to visit, it’s still better than seeing then skipped!

Blast , I was convinced it was you Ian – would have been a nice collection for you .

I wonder if RadarArchive ( Ian ) is behind radarhist1 – looks like he bought a fair bit – if it is then its gone to a good home .
