So Moggy , if it is every 5 years is that you covered until you are 70 now 😀

Daz – true story – if you stand in front of the shed and look East you will see a line of trees with a big gap in the middle – when taking off in the Jodel with a full tank 2 up you had to aim for the gap ‘cos the Jodel would only do 200fpm loaded , we went over the trees a couple of times – VERY close .

I didn’t know there was a Jodel based at Drem! 😮

Yup , she was G-BOJO , struck off in 1996 reg now belongs on a Cameron balloon. I’ve posted photos of her and the based Turbulent at Drem on the Forum a while back . If you look midway down the straight bit of the south section of the perimeter track at Drem you will see a green double garage sized hangar both were kept in there between 1990-94 , I think the Jodel is still in there but the last time I saw her she was in a mess .

As you say, he knew his stuff, but the NMS treated him shabbily. This isn’t really the place to repeat what I’ve heard, but ask me on Saturday and I’ll tell you as much as I know.

Interesting ?? , last time I spoke to him was actually last September , he let us pull some of the barriers from around the Anson and Bolingbroke so we could get some decent photos . Very decent knowledgable chap . I had a chat with one of the other chaps over there regarding the Vulcan and Comet last year and when I repeated on the Forum what he openly told me ( and others ) he totally denied it when questioned further . I will expand on Saturday !!.

There is a very intresting account of the Ferranti Flying Unit. I have a photcopy of a few pages, but I’ve never seen a complete copy. I’d love to get my grubby little hands on one! There is a lot of equipment in the MoF from Ferranti, including of course the only purely civilian-registered Meteor.

$hit , I never knew Grant had gone already !! – he was an excellent chap – on more than one occasion he opened the restoration hangar to let us look at the Beaufighter close up .

Yup the EF Meteor is G-ARCX from Ferranti – and she is in excellent condition , shame they keep the canopy closed now though . George Anderson was a veritable mine of info when it came to Ferranti – I only wish I had paid more attention in class, I ended up repeating a riveting ” sequential and digital logic ” course !!! . And never got a copy of Georges tape to boot !!.

Maybe you’d like to invade the kill-kill-kill forum with a curry?

Mention curry on the Flamewars Forum ?? , sounds good 🙂

We have a caravan over at North Berwick so I can generally be found wandering around EF every second weekend or so regularly pestering Grant Newman – much better than shopping with the wife . I have a few aerial shots of EF I will try and look out , I may have some shots of Drem too .
I never knew they had any TSR2 stuff at EF , I look forward to seeing that – when I was at college ( 10 years or so ago ) I had a lecturer called George Anderson who was a Marconi/Ferranti retiree , he ended up as a special projects manager – when he realised I was interested in aviation he brought in a video which consisted of loads of cine film transferred onto a VHS tape , straight away I recognized G-ARCX – the Mentadent Meteor which is now at EF and also loads of shots of a very young George Anderson climbing on board a Dakota at Turnhouse . George spent some time explaining that the worlds first terrain following radar was actually built in Scotland and when the TSR2 was scrapped he was told to hand over all his data to the US . After 3-4 years the project was restarted with the intention of equipping the Buccaneer with the TFR . The last half of the tape consisted of a series of 3-4 minute clips taken from a Bucc at ever decreasing heights . I last saw George at West Lothian College – I’m still trying to track him down now to ask if I can copy his tape.

If I can correct you on another point, the museum has been open to the public from 1 April and will certainly be open to anyone on Saturday. Since this will be the first weekend since Concorde’s arrival (and many people will expect, like you, to be able to see it) I think the museum will actually be very busy indeed.

Many apologies , I was over last weekend and there was not a soul to be seen – I was under the impression that it was shut until the Concorde was re-assembled .
I like your idea of a tour of Drem and Macmerry etc , I flew with a couple of friends who had a Jodel 150D in the big double garage shed thingy right on the south perimeter track at Drem for a couple of years , I would’nt mind a walkround of the place if we have time .

Look up Aircraft Spruce Europe and give David Dawson a phone , he will talk you through aircraft quality spruce and mahogany ply , definately not cheap – but like Moggy says – do you want cheap stuff or quality stuff . Great Plains are good for aircraft quality hardware – AN fasteners , metals , rivets etc – they have a comprehensive selection of stuff – but it has to be sourced from the US.
