Our medical requirements for the NPPL still seem to be somewhat stricter than places like the US and Cananda seem to accept but it still does not guarantee greater safety in aviation
The medical requirements for the NPPL are much the same as the requirements for your driving licence , so basically if you can drive you can fly , I think the NPPL is only good for getting lapsed pilots airborne again , people who have had their PPLA cancelled due to diabetes etc can now fly again.
Moggy is bang on – example, my tractor has a 2000cc engine and puts out a grand total of 25bhp , my car is 2500cc and puts out 148bhp , BUT when you have a look at the torque my car could never pull any of the implements my tractor does .
Count me in !!

I think the Gannet shot looks good. It creates nice moody pictures to under expose a bit.
You think Der meant to under expose it ??? , he was very probably full of beer 😀 😀

I think The Neil Moffatt Gannet was rescued from Leuchars before it started its new job as a BDRT airframe.
Could be wrong though 🙂M
I think your right , Neil is/was an airline pilot and the Mambas were found in Canada ??? and it was the guys from Leuchars who got her up and flying . Anyone know what Neil is up to now and if he still owns her ??

Sounds about right Al.
I didnt do the sensible thing and write on the back of the photos!
I can remember buying one of the prints of Black Mike and getting to sit in her too , I was the idiot in the bright Red MkIII Ford Zephyr 6 with the huuuge mag slot Alleycats who couldn’t get out the carpark – **** .
Quality photos Der !!!! , was the Gannet 1985-86 at Leuchars , I remember Neil Moffat displaying it as it was Leuchars personnel who fitted the Double Mamba power unit (s) to her .

Doh! Obviously… you’re right of course, Alastair. But can i weasel out by saying the Natter was never ment to land at all 😉 ?
You never specified it had to land ??? 😀
Sorry – only chance somebody as thick as me would get a chance to get one over you so I had to take it !!:D 😀
You’re right Ian , by then Sir William had started disposing of his collection , the last ones to go were the Comet and the Shack which as you probably know were scrapped onsite , one of the Ansons lay outside (WD413 ??) propellorless for a while and the Sea Hawk lay behind it . The Anson flew out and the SeaHawk is now at Montrose . The Miles Magister is supposed to still be on the estate – but I’ve not seen it , there is an Anson looking centre section lying upsidedown in a ditch on the estate – a sad end to a superb collection .
🙁
The German Natter / Bachem (246 ??) was a rocket propelled interceptor which had a nose full of rockets – designed to break up Allied bomber formations , after expending its rockets the rear section containing the pilot and propulsion rockets fell away as one unit . No idea if this was the first though ???.
The F-111 still uses the single capsule which ejects both pilots and almost the complete cockpit in one big lump, not so long ago an F-111 crashed in the Scottish Borders , the capsule is still on display at the Dumfries and Galloway Aviation Museum .
