The big questions would be what sort of “routine training” mission the Zubr was deployed on that saw it out alone with live ordnance for its 30mm cannon embarked? Presumably it “just” being on a training mission would mean empty tubes or just training rounds carried for the RL’s as, if the vessel was close enough to engage with the 30mm’s, it was certainly close enough to use the rockets if the situation warranted opening fire!.

As to the NK Navy, for a service with quite limited resources and very limited operational capabilities they do seem to be able to cause a LOT or irritation in their neighbourhood. They’ve had live-fire “incidents” with the SK Navy, Japanese patrol units and now the Russians over the last couple of years. I would have thought they’d be well advised to tighten their act up a bit before someone over there loses patience with them!

Jonesy , I’ve been interested in the North Korean situation for a wee while , mainly because of their “cult” style leadership , is there anywhere I can read more about this ?? , any literature I can buy etc , thanks.

Not a regular on this forum – but have ben following this thread , 3 axis Micros can be spun – I started off on weightshifts (Mainair Gemini Flash 2 Alpha ) then took a few stints in a mate’s 3 axis , good fun spinning and doing wingovers ( not being used to that type of thing ) but am now back on weightshifts – great cheap “in your face ” fun.

Did anybody happen to notice the press coverage of Hizzy’s funeral , a true measure of the man’s popularity , hundreds of bikers turned up to pay respects and were allowed by the Police to use the full width of the road to follow the Cortege to Southdean Cemetary – and turned a blind eye to the helmetless bikers . Hizzy’s 1992 Isle of Man Norton Rotary will be on pole position at the start of the first round of the next BSB Championship for a 1 minute silence .
    RIP Hizzy

Parts for them are readily available Roger , engine parts especially are available from Meetens Industrial Engines , Wimbledon , London . There is also a Ransomes Owners Club who have a good spares section , if you have any problems mail me and I’ll help out as best I can . They are great fun to drive !! , just don’t put your hand down over the left hand side as the exhaust runs down that side and it gets hot !! , keep your hands on the levers at all times !!!!

Edited to include – I have a spare fuel tank in great condition – available FOC if you need it , and may have a suitable JAP 600cc side-valve engine too – just needs a carburettor.

The IWM only has one example is a Russian ‘cold war’ aircraft, they should make every effort to obtain one or two Iraqi combat jets, the Mig-25 shown above would be good for starters. It always amazes me that apart from a few helicopters and the Mig-23/27 that arrived at Newark via a private importer, that the UK has not received any ‘cold war’ jets from the former Eastern block countries.

The Museum of Flight at East Fortune has a nice example of a Mig 15 on display ( well a Polish Lim -2 to be more accurate ) and has another Mig front fuselage section in store , but I have to agree I would like to see more Cold War aeroplanes on display – especially when there are so many lying around former Warsaw Pact countries doing nothing – there were a few Hind’s and Mig15-17’s passed through the country but none ended up staying here – there were even Hind’s lying up here in Scotland at Cumbernauld Airport

The book is pretty good though , it is pretty old but still in good nick – even with the original flyleaf cover . All the photos are in a black and white glossy section in the middle , if it is any use let me know , I may have other stuff which may be of use to you (not , not Colombian stuff) , I collect loads of books for no apparent reason and occasionally turn up some goodies – I would rather somebody could use them rather let them lie around my house.
