How disconcerting.

Couple of little bits of useless information.

The Mighty Antar tank transporter had a Meteor as well.
Wonder what that did to the gallon, a few yards presumably.

On holiday on the Isle of Wight a few years ago saw what appeared to be a wartime vintage MTB just clinging to the surface.
Good home for those 3 crated Meteors?

Anybody remember John Dodds with the supposedly Merlin-powered road car and Rolls-Royce grille and bumpers?
That was a Meteor as well. I did actually see that once, on the road. Full anecdote lasts about 5 minutes so I’ll skip it. Think the engine only did about 200 revs from stationary to out-of-sight.

To the best of my knowledge, I’ve never seen a Merlin and Meteor in fairly close proximity, more likely miles and also quite possibly years apart.
It does sound ****** obvious if you can see them both!

BTW, just to be pedantic, I believe in theory they’re Rover Meteors. It was part of the deal with Rover for the Barnoldswick jet factory.

Feedback is, theoretically, important and does give an idea of other peoples experiences.
However, the crook that stitched me up had a reasonable feedback status, but between the time I sent the cheque off and it cleared, his feedback and account were cancelled.
The item I “bought” ws a laptop computer. He had had one but at the time he advertised it, he hadn’t. There was no chance of me ever getting it.
If somebody is determined, they’ll get you, or somebody else.
I say again, most people are honest but no organisation can completely legislate against crooks.

This is not a fair comparison, but, as an example, after Dunblane the kneejerk reaction was to ban handguns.
Total waste of time. More gun crime than ever as by their very nature crooks and loonies don’t take any notice of laws, regulations, rules etc.

Don’t let this put you off. I’ve bought, I hope (!) a car radio cassette just today. Only 30 quid so not the end of the world if it goes wrong but the laptop would have been £450 if Plod hadn’t caught him.

Looking at my feedback, I’ve now bought 40 items so it didn’t put me off, the bad one would have been 6th or thereabouts.

I’ve used ebay a lot over the last year or so, so far only for buying as the only item I put up for sale – didn’t!
Only been taken to the cleaners once, but the Old Bill got him for me.
You have to believe everybody’s honest, otherwise it wouldn’t work, but of course, not everybody is.
Probably safer selling as you don’t part with the goods ’til you’ve got the loot, but not by Monday.

I’m fairly sure it was Aviation Jersey that got the blame for Charles Church, whether rightly or wrongly I wouldn’t know.

At the risk of seeming flippant (g) to the best of my knowledge, neither tanks or MTBs generally cruise around at 20,000 feet, thus making superchargers superfluous.

I believe that’s the only major difference between a Meteor and Merlin but I’m quite prepared to be told I’m wrong.
Think the power output of a Meteor’s quoted at 600hp, come to think of it.
My Dad would have been a good one to ask, Tank Regiment just post-war, but unfortunately he’s no longer available for questioning.

I’m not sure if I’m pleased or disappointed to discover I don’t even come close to being a Mosquito Anorak!
Books, only a dozen or so; prints, none; plans for building flying models, two but built none; plastic kits, built none recently but 3 or 4 in boxes.
However, despite my present location, Hertfordshire born and bred and in my extremely biased eyes, de Havilland can do no wrong.

As it’s the 60th anniversary of the dams raid, it’s quite possible there may be a display at Ladybower reservoir in North Derbyshire this year. The dam there is very similar to one of the Ruhr ones with twin towers and was used in training.
I went to the 50th anniversary do which was great and out of the ordinary.

This may be a red herring, but on my only visit to Skyfame in, I guess 1967 or 1968, there were two Mossies in evidence.
One was damaged around the bomb bay, evidence of a wheels-up landing.
Didn’t appear to have as much damage as TA719 must have had (seems heathen now to deliberately retract the undercart) so which one was it?
It’s at times like this I wish I was a “spotter”.
