What was done was wrong but to ban them from 2 races is a bit strict. This meens BAR will have gone 6 races without points as the Imola result is now changed.
Taking away the Imola result is bad enough but excluding them from the next 2 races is to much. Any chance they had of a decent championship position is now out the window.

Deservedly so. They shouldn’t have broken the rules. The bigger the ban the better. After all, if the only chance you have of winning is by unfair means, you shouldn’t be competing in the first place.

That, Sir, is not the point. It does not have three additional engines. The aircraft has a complement of four engines. Therefore it should do what it says in the instructions and fly on four. Of course there is an increased risk with flying on three. Another engine failure means you’re effectively now a twin. The risk may be considered to be small, maybe even infinitessimal, but it still constitutes a risk.

No, the analogy stands. If you’re worried about one risk which is considered to be small why do you not show the same concern about another? Could a terrorist set off an engine failure? It’s not happened yet but I would imagine it’s not a total impossibility.

What’s the point of having only two engines if you’re in trouble when one fails? Cost effectiveness? At the risk of passengers lives? If I’m in a twin and two fail does that automatically get me in the Guinness Book of Records as being a passenger on the world’s heaviest glider?

I am not employed, but I do not beg off the state. I receive the benefit I am entitled to, nothing more. Were I fit and able to do so I would without hesitation resume my career as a carer for children with physical and learning disabilities. I have tried to find other employment and am always asked for interview, until they find out the limitations imposed by my medical condition.

Do you have the experience to wash up? Clean a toilet? There are any number of jobs an articulate and amenable person like you could undertake. Unless of course, you feel they are beneath you, perhaps more suited to an immigrant?

Again, evidence please. A bed is not necessarily the issue here. Was a surgeon and surgical team available? Was the operation to be palliative in nature? What was the “terrorist” convicted of? Why was he in the UK? Evidence, please…..

Someone else has already answered this more eloquently than I. But obviously, being the bigot you are, you would prefer to donate money anywhere than to people who lost everything, including their loved ones, because they don’t fit your image of decent human beings.

I live in an area with a much higher Muslim population than sleepy Scarborough. That doesn’t happen here. Muslim children make things for Christmas and Easter, English kids (white) make things for Muslim festivals. Bear in mind that 90% of the Muslim children are also English.

Might it be that if the Buffalo was the “best” aircraft the Finns had in their inventory that the pilots had greater confidence in the machine and therefore utilised it to its best advantage? In the RAF, there were numerous aircraft with superior performance, therefore a Hurricane or Spitfire pilot transferred to a Buffalo Squadron would instantly realise the inadequacies and inferiority of the aircraft and that might have affected the way the way in which they operated.

An analogy. I learned to drive in an MG Maestro Turbo. I believed the performance was sparkling, until I was taken for a ride in a Sierra Cosworth/Lotus/Caterham……

It’s hard. And it doesn’t really get that much easier. My girlfriend was killed in an accident at 18. If I’d have been where I was supposed to be we would have been nowhere near the accident. But her sister would have died instead. She died saving her sister. I was really close to both my aunt and my mom. I’ve often thought they’re gone, it’s over, that’s it. But it’s not. They are still here in some form or other. These people did so much to colour my life they will never be gone.

I was going through a very bad patch and being the selfish individual I am finally got round to voicing the thought “why me?” A very wise person told me that maybe it’s because I can cope and will cope, where someone else might not. Which made me think of C/Sgt Bourne’s answer in Zulu. “Because we’re here laddie, and nobody else.” None of this helps you of course, we all only wish we could do something to help. Which makes these fora very different to some of the others I’ve tried.

But, to answer your initial question, I really don’t know where the sense is, perhaps we shouldn’t even bother looking for any? Maybe it’s better just to care for tose we truly care about and try not to worry about the rest. No-one ever said the world was fair.

• Terrorist tries to enter cockpit
• Cockpit door re-enforced
• Terrorist delayed in accessing cockpit
• Meanwhile Pilots hear noise of attempted entry
• Delay allows Pilots to ready weapon
• Pilots shout warning
• Terrorist gains entry bang s/he is dead
• Or Terrorist aborts attempt to access cockpit
• In either situation Pilots land asap

With a re-enforced door it will take a moment for any would be hijacker to gain entry.

Jees, Sandy, are you deliberately ignoring everyone else’s comments from earlier?

What you are failing to understand is that once terrorists are on board, with the mindset displayed by current terrorists, it’s game over anyway. People will die, by whatever method the terrorist can employ. Yes, it’s likely that passengers would revolt and take on the terrorists and some will die. Let’s say that the terrorists can’t get into the cockpit, so the crew divert to the nearest airfield. Would for instance the American authorities allow that to happen or would they shoot the aircraft down? These are the imponderables that we may have to face. It’s not like in the 70’s with the likes of Baader-Meinhoff et al. They had political purpose which was mainly ensuring the release of some political prisoners. They had no wish to die. They wanted success and the ability, if not the opportunity, to do it all again.

Guns in aircraft will get people killed. I don’t think my view will ever change. Whatever psychiatric testing is employed is no guarantee that the person tested will react in the programmed manner. Are you envisaging that there will come a time when pilots will be employed because of their extra prowess with a firearm? Or perhaps those who are proven to be good with weapons should be cross trained as pilots?

Use intelligence and get them on the ground.
