Intriguing. No Aircrew Europe Star more or less rules out Bomber Command (I may be wrong there)
No bar on the Africa star may not be significant as they appear to be miniatures. The Atlantic Star would tend to point towards Coastal Command Wouldn’t it? Also, the issue of no further Campaign medals tend to suggest his operational career ended somewhere in the Middle East.
Coastal does look likely. Might be worth getting in touch with the guy who wrote Coastal Command Losses. I think he has posted on here before, Ross something or other?
Skypilot. Let me know if I’m treading on your toes only i tend to be a bit like a dog with a bone.

Nothing on any website I’ve checked either.
Now, medal ribbons are 39-45 Star and the two at the end aer Defence, and War. The two in the middle look like the Atlantic Star and Africa Star. An unusual combination? Or possibly the Italy Star then Africa Star, in which case they are wrong way round. Unless the third is not the Africa Star, but the France and Germany Star? There is also something near the edge of the pocket. Could this be a Caterpillar Club badge? Indicating that he had baled out at some time?
Try writing to
DORIS (Dept of Research and Information Services)
Royal Air Force Museum,
Grahame Park Way,
Hendon,
London.
They have given me potted service histories before. Just give them as much information as you can. I would also try a posting on the RAF Commands site.
Good luck and let us know how you get on.

Moggy.
Fair comment.
I’m just disappointed no-one wants my share of the Millenium Falcon. Thought young Robert would have jumped at it.

…. Lady Lesley Hollamby Fortesque-Smythe, alias Baron von Schtickemup! It seems there was no end to the lessons learned by Baron Von Sschtickemup at the Transvestitestandarte training school. But, who really was flying the Cloudster…..
Can someone tell me when the ban was lifted on blatant advertising?
In that case I have a half share in the Millenium Falcon for sale, £20 down and 50p a week, good condition with all the latest gizmos. Chewy is available as crew. Wages negotiable.

……….Which was really quite amazing as Chuffer was not supposed to know of our German imposter playing the part of Lady Lesley Hollamby Fortesque-Smythe, a lady of inestimable beauty with correspondingly few morals. Or was Chuffer in league with Lady Fortesque-Smythe, alias Baron von Schtickemup? Much like the soup, the plot thickened……..
….. BUNS!!!!! Hundreds of ’em. All agreed it was an amazing sight as the ladies of the WRVS marched across the ‘drome. There were buns of all shapes and sizes, very similar to the ladies of the WRVS. However, amongst their number lurked Hauptmann Baron Franz von Schtickemup of the elite German unit ‘Das transvestitestandarte.’ So far, no-one knew of his fiendish plans, or the explosive device hidden……
…Immediately after the A.O.C.’s outburst a huge explosion split the silence. “Take cover!” screamed the AOC, “Take co…..” A large lump of debris from the explosion, later discovered to be the remains of a porcelain water cistern, had taken his head clean off. Chuffer turned to the assembled throng and said…
Three guys are discussing the fastest thing on earth.
The first says “I reckon it has to be thought, you think it and it’s there.”
The second says “I reckon it’s electricity, you press the switch and the light comes on instantly.”
The third says “you’re both wrong, it’s diaorrhoea. If you get diaorrhoea in the night you don’t have time to think about it or turn on the light.”

….all together quieter as he went about his daily business.
It was at about this time that Air Vice Marshal Notoobrite, AOC of 11 and three twelfths Group, arrived unannounced. This was rather unfortunate as the Hurricane he arrived in ground looped on the wet grass and deposited the AOC….
….. using a set of BA spanners, a Polish copy of the Scottish play and Chuffer’s unique ability to apply a certain part of his anatomy to….
Sandy.
I presume nothing.
Sincere apologies to all, and now I’ll get my coat.

Tom.
Ok, aviation related.
Safety concerns with certain airlines (or certain aircraft).
No British aviation industry to speak of.
Airlines becoming bankrupt.
Airline staff laid off.
Terrorism, or the threat of it.
It’s still as ugly as sin.
No hot meals for danairboy.
Dirty windows? Do they matter more than any of the above? (With the possible exception of danairboy’s meals) or not?
This is not an aircraft to be mourned. It was a failure. Britain and France built it at enormous cost and sold them to BA for a £1 each. Why? Nobody else wanted them. It catered only for those who could afford £5,000 for a return trip across the Atlantic. It was barred from overflying most areas of the world. A true failure, in every sense of the word.
I’ll upset Wys here, even the ‘glider with 5 APU’s’ has been more successful.
