If people are prepared to pay the fares then I really don’t see the problem. How much is the fare icidentally? And how long the flight? Does it compare favourably, cost and time wise with a first class rail ticket?

It’s gone. Send them to the smelter and make something useful out of them. Baked Beans cans spring to mind. It was never cost-effective, it was built in favour of a strike/attack aircraft that we desperately needed (still do) and it is as ugly as sin. The best thing about it is the noise.

Everyone bleating about a bit of rain stain on the aircraft, it’s pathetic. Get yourselves a mop and bucket. The world is falling apart around our ears and shock/horror, Concorde’s dirty. Let’s prioritise eh?

Terrorism is on the increase.

Famine is still rife.

Concorde’s windows are dirty.

How was 2004 for me?

Firstly I have consolidated some friendships which I value above all else.

Legends. What can I say? Great aircraft, superb flying, excellent company (and the chance to attend another Memorial unveiling, thank you Mark) and the unforgettable sight of SRP’s and Andy in Beds picnic basket?/ Hamper?/ Buffet?/ Cold store?/ Delicatessen?

Elvington and an emotional dream fulfilled thanks to Robbo. I can’t say how much that day meant to me. I pulled up to get some petrol on the way home and the enormity of the experience struck me, and struck me hard. Those twenty minutes spent crawling around in the Lancaster will I very much doubt ever be surpassed. It is living history and through the efforts of ‘two farmers and a Lancaster’ my personal experience of the history of Bomber Command was multiplied a thousandfold. How can people not have respect and admiration for the men that fought and died in aircraft such as those?

Finally, the realisation of a personal dream. The opportunity to record the history of a Squadron, the reviewing of the archive, conversations and meetings with veterans, seeing the project coming together and realising that the publication date is only a few months away. Most of all the opportunity to say thank you to at least one group of men without whose service and sacrifice I wouldn’t be typing this now.

Have I had a good 2004? No, I’ve had the best. Thank you to everyone here who has supported me in getting this far.

That is so much better. A reasoned response to argument. Much better than your normal habit of hijacking a thread with constant wittering about catering.

There is room for us all on here. A few months ago we came close to losing this forum, well before you arrived so don’t take offence. Some people worked very hard to sort out the problems and several members made a fresh start. I can see it happening again if we’re not careful and this forum is too good a resource to lose.

BTW. ‘Snitch’ is not really appropriate as I have explained my actions to you and not done so behind your back.

I am sure one of the moderators will ‘have words’ with me. I will respond in the way I think fit as you and I have done all along.

I think it’s to do with the words ‘specific threat.’ A threat against that specific flight but not the nature of the threat. Therefore it could be a bomb or a hijacking. In the event of the latter the Dutch Air Force would have been likely to shoot it down if it appeared to be heading for a mafor city etc. The RAF tornadoes would have had te same orfers for the Olympic A340. I think it said on the news that most nations had agreed to shoot down airliners if they were a proven threat.

Horrible thought isn’t it?
