Paranoia? Stupidity? Or something even more sinister?
Why divert from Washington to Maine to deny entry into the US? Isn’t Maine a US State? Unless they were afraid of him reaching Washington for some reason.

I thought O’leary was going to show porn for those who wanted it! Thats what he said. As he realised that such a move could lead to stained seat covers.
Why? Might people spill their drinks?

You egotistical person. Dont call me a troll! If we must diagree lets disagree without being disagreable, please.
If I were a charter carrier I would not touch the 738 or 321 with a barge pole. I would want an aircraft that could fly in or out of anywhere within its range. I may wish to start flights to a small Greek Island or holidays to GIB and I want an aircraft than can fly to these destinations unhindered.
But you’re not a charter carrier are you? You are somone who won’t listen to reasoned arguments backed up by hard commercial facts. Back up your arguments or keep them to yourself.
I’m seriouslt considering putting you on ignore. You are a waste of good bandwidth.

I’m beginning to wonder whether or not danairboy is naturally as irritating and arrogant as he comes across?
Or, are we doing nothing more than feeding another troll?

That was a cheap jibe. Of course I am aware of the DC10s accidents/incidents but it is still a very capable airliner which has given millions of passengers a safe and comfortable form of transportation.
Not a cheap jibe, just a statement of fact. Is the DC10’s safety record good. Yes or no? Did a lot of people die as a result of faults with the aircraft door? Is that not a matter of record O wise one?

The DC-10, with its exemplary safety record…. Remember Foret D’ermenonville (sp)? And the other DC-10 losses? The families do.

I expect the interiors to be kept to a decent standard and not worn carpets and seat covers. Wisdom comes with age something you will learn as you mature LBA.
danairboy, if wisdom comes with age, how long is it before you get any?
The airlines are there to make money. They utilise their airframes to the maximum. Why would you refurbish an aircraft you are going to replace? The one you sell will have a new interior designed by its new operator won’t it?
The airline pays for maintenance, refurbishments etc. If you want the aircraft to look really new you obviously won’t mind paying the huge increase in fair prices will you?

danairboy.
Why is field performance such an issue? In an era of ever expanding airports and runways I don’t see it as a problem. Proven designs like the 737 and 747 will be stretched to their absolute limit. I don’t know but I would imagine that stretching a currently available aircraft is far less than the R & D costs of a completely new model.

Moggy.
It has nothing to do with any 21st Century notion of fairness. I held these views last Century too. Whether discrepancies occur through class distininction or not is unclear. As we all know an Officer got a DFC while OR’s got DFM’s. If the VC is awarded irrespective of rank I fail to understand why it was not awarded for collective actions. Flood mentioned Garland and Gray receiving VC’s while Reynolds family only got a telegram. It would be interesting to know on what criteria Reynolds was deemed unworthy of recognition, or did the RAF really consider LAC Observers and Gunners as nothing more than ballast?

Firebird.
What you have said is borne out (or should that be Airborne?) by Moggy’s latest missive. He has asked if the forum would have a whip round to pay for the 120 Euro plus bar bill he ran up in the Schoonoord the other night buying drinks for veterans.

For your ordniary working man, flying clubs are way too expensive. I have visited a few and they seem full of silver-spoons for whom money isnt a worry as daddy foots the bill. I cant believe any are on the verge of bankruptcy they all seem to be onto a nice little earner!
Oh dear. Is this a case of true colours coming out? It is not a class issue but your apprent discomfort with your partners expenditure at flying clubs has obviously left you bitter.
I don’t know the financial circumstances behind Newcastle’s problems and I suspect you don’t either. What I will say is that I wish them and their members well and hope they can continue to operate. A person having a silver spoon in their mouth is no different to me having a Black Country accent. Take people for what they are and not what some tisted perception of society tells you they are and the world would be a better place.
I’ve spoken to quite a few of the pilots who visit Key fora, and I haven’t found a single silver spoon yet.

The VC is awarded irrespective of rank. I think if it’s awarded for a collective action all should receive it. I understand about it being special but if all the crew died, or not, then they contributed to said action and should be treated the same. I think the cannon you referred to came from Balaclava. It was in the Crimea anyway.

Grey Area
Yes, ten operators, but still only 117 aircraft sold…..
Just out of interest has any British Manufacturer of airliners ever produced more than 500 aircraft?
Regards,
kev35
Uniqueness, unfortunately, does not guarantee success. In fact, it often mitigates against it. I also liked the Trident but can also appreciate it was not the world beater it was hoped to be.
Regards,
kev35
Okay, I concede the point that the Trident was in service with BA until the mid 80’s but a record of 117 built as against 1700 727’s and God knows how many 737’s shows that the aircraft did not match the standards required by airlines.
How many fewer Comets built than 707’s?
How many 1-11’s compared to DC-9’s/MD 80 series?
How many VC-10’s?
F-27’s compared to Heralds?
That is why the British Aircraft Manufacturing Industry failed.
