It’s hard to decide really. I loved First Light, the contrast between his character as ‘Boy’ and the man he became. There are so many to choose from, but Moggy’s advice to read ‘Under an English Heaven’ was taken and I’m thankful that I did, it’s one to be read and re-read. Anything by Johnnie Johnson or Laddie Lucas is worth reading. For research purposes Flood put me onto the Air Britain Serial books which are a boon. Bomber and Fighter Command Losses are also worthy of a mention.
I’ve read all of Richard Bach’s books too and found JLS and There’s No Such Place As far Away are absolute treasures, as is the Reluctant Messiah. His pure flight books are also a wonderful read.
Another book I loved was ‘Down to a Sunless Sea.’ I have to be honest and say that many of my favourites are not aviation or flight related, but those are probably for another thread.
