“Although it anoys everyone (me include) when they cry there is not much you can do about it, but try your best. I take my hat of to mothers and dads who can keep them quiet and ask that they tell me the secret:D “
Have you ever tried haloperidol? 😉

Possibly to generate the extra lift required as it’s airspeed was far lower than would normally be employed? Perhaps Wys can answer that one.

Allen.
Not much I can add but if the results are that good within a few days of having the camera I can’t wait to see what they’ll be like in a few weeks time.

Andrewm.
If you show your boarding pass entry is free. Take plenty of spending money as the shop has a good collection of models and the range of books is outstanding.
Enjoy uor trip. I would have joined you but I’ll be in Duxford on the day.

Perhaps she’s on holiday with Janie? 🙂

Gef,
Don’t get me wrong, I’m glad to see the Williams sisters stranglehold on women’s tennis broken. But I’d much rather it be broken because they were played off the court, not because they are injured. It was said on UK tv that Clijsters is only number one by virtue of the fact that she has played more tournaments, apparently they get points for wherever they finish in a tournament. She is number one by accruing more points from lower place finishes than by winning any tournaments. The commentators were questioning whether anyone can be rightly considered to be world number one without ever having won a grand slam tournament. Henin-Hardenne has won two this year yet is still only number two.

I thought the guy with the geese (cranes?) was good too, something unusual to say the least. Their formation keeping was good but the turns? Seemed like the leader had just screamed BREAK!!!!! They sorted themselves out soon enough and caught up with ‘mother’, not surprising since he was only doing about 30 knots.
I found the commentary for the Great War scenario a little hard to follow….. “I want you to imagine you’re in a trench in France (flypast enclosure, comfortably seated), you’re cold, wet and hungry (Warm, hazy sunshine and just ate my lunch) you’re frightened (I was having a great time)…….” Sobering though to think the average life expectancy of a fighter pilot on the Western Front was just three weeks.
The Hunter and Canberra were a real treat, as was the Meteor. Also enjoyed the inter war and circuit aircraft. Happy memories of time spent in a Chipmunk. Really pleased to see the BBMF Dakota too, displaying on her own was great. Have to mention the Air Atlantic DC-6 and DC-3. I see them often being relatively close to Coventry, but not in that context.
The star? Has to be the 747 with a great commentary “…..turning in with sixty degrees of bank at 350 feet.” Pure magic, absolutely.

Re: Belgium rules women-tennis
Gef,
“Another all-Belgian grand slam final (US Open). This time I wanted Kim to win instead of Justine to keep the balance steady between the Dutch and the French in our little country! Kim is still number one though, followed by Justine.
Feels good to hang the tricolor out of the window again. “
Celebrate while you can. It was only an all Belgian final because the two best players withdrew.
I really must learn to read posts properly, I could have sworn you wrote “Feels good to hang the TRACTOR out of the window again.”

Mark 12.
Thanks for that, and for the photo. Our Chris thinks it’s almost ghostly to see these photos that are being unearthed and to realise that her Dad may be among those pushing aircraft overboard.

Ashley, I appreciate your efforts sorting this out, but I’ll have to drop out of this as well since I was mainly interested in looking at the interior of the Lanc and/or Sunderland.Sorry
Have I got the wrong idea here? This has been billed all along as a Duxford ‘Meet.’ Perhaps I’m wrong but I always thought the idea of a meet was to renew and make acquaintances and friendships. I’m just happy to be able to meet up with and exchange ideas and points of view with like-minded enthusiasts. ANYTHING ELSE IS A BONUS. Yes, it is disappointing that the aircraft tours are off, but that is through no fault of Ashley’s. A tour of printed books? How often do you get the opportunity to do that? And to watch Dambusters in the Station cinema, just cast back your mind and think of who’s sat in there, the names, the characters, the personalities…… And to round the day off with good company in a local hostelry. Maybe I’m a man of simple tastes, but that’s a day I don’t want to miss.
Ashley, I’ll be there.
