While not wholly agreeing with the vociferousness of DIGBY’S post your attitude does seem questionable.

“Unfortunately DIGBY North Weald market doesn’t have any aviation related stalls. That’s why i don’t waste my time with them and leave them to the sad old famillies.”

Ergo, anyone not into airshows is sad? You’ve just alienated some ninety-odd percent of the population.

“As for me being an ankle biter, of course i was but after watching fathers days, including my own, at airshows ruined because they have a screaming little oyk tagging on to their ankles and mine will be staying at home until the time that they can drive themselves. My brothers completely ruined my early days at airshows.”

Surely then the activities of your brothers are more a comment on the parenting skills of your parents? And of course of your own if we are to believe you would not take your children to an airshow? Contrast that with the attitude of Steve Young and Haydn. Steve told us a number of heartwarming stories last year of his and Haydn’s visits to airshows. I have no children, but if I did I would be honoured to share with them the excitement of an airshow, what it means when my eyes mist over at the sound of Merlins, why I CAN go to an airshow. To share the knowledge of the courage and the sacrifice of those gone before, why I get a lump in my throat when I meet a veteran.

Yes, children should be encouraged to behave, but not all of them are little oiks as you suggest. Rather than criticise or scold, engage them, and let them share your knowledge and passion.

As of last Saturday the Mig-21 was outside, just in front of the hangar. Inside was a Gnat and I believe a helicopter.

As you know my health brings me down with a bump now and again. Having this new camera is a real boon. It’s sparked my interest again and is helping to drag me back out of a slide. It’s something I can do that my disability doesn’t hinder me, except, of course, from the aspect of a lack of talent. If that’s what it takes to motivate me I’ll give it a whirl.

The Yak sounded great and was very spritely on take-off, climbing very steeply. Seemed to take an age for the undercarriage to go up. The guy in the back gave me a wave as he taxied out. The aircraft is registered to Skytrace Ltd. It still has the feel of a WWII airfield with a plethora of buildings, a number of which are overgrown. A lad I went to school with is an instructor with one of the schools there.

Sorry if this post was too personal, folks.

The old terminal at BHX is, I believe, part of the so called ‘Freeport’ which that side of the airfield was turned over to when the new terminal was built. The grey shed to the right of the terminal is I think the cargo handling area.

I just noticed today that it appears the West Midlands Police helicopter now operates from Halfpenny Green, unless it was just there for servicing?

Sadly no. I don’t think that’s allowed in the UK under the SALT treaty. Doubt that the CAA would ever allow such a complex aircraft to fly privately in the UK anyway. Still, we can always hope………….

Sadly no. I even stood on the cockpit steps of the Javelin and never took a picture. Looks very nice though and I think it has been repainted in the last couple of years.

    Stringbag.

If you mean the black one then no. Lokks again to be in good clean condition. I think that’s the one with the live cockpit? On the MAM thread I started there is a general view which shows their other Hunter. I have to say again that place is a pleasure to visit and to know the aircraft are actively being worked on. It is a credit to the staff and volunteers. Needless to say it won’t be two years before my next visit.

Thanks for that information. Presumably the two Reeve Electras near the hangars are N1968R and N9744C? Atlantic are operating a really diverse fleet now. Did you see the silver Learjet by the Business Aviation Centre? It was registered LX-ONE but I couldn’t get a picture.
