It was me! I tried to get info on an airport tour at Man, left numerous messages and even wrote but received not one reply so I think we are pretty much left to our own devices. It seems that the outdoor aviation viewing park would be best after perhaps all meeting in Terminal 1? Those of us driving could ferry people about and maybe even try some other locations as indicated in that guide someone reccomended? I’m not going to be able to venture too far from my car unless it’s very flat as I am a wheelchair user if I need to go any distance.

Please add me to your list. Where do you all intend to meet? I shall be driving up from the West Midlands. Anybody need a lift let me know.

    Alastair.

Should you feel an urgent need to buy a future copy of flypast, I’m sure WH Smith would be able to obtain a copy for you as a special order. (At least they did when I last worked for them 13 years ago.)

    Observer.

    Hi, Mark.

Bomber Command Losses has nothing on Wellingtons matching that date, I’ve checked both operational and OTU losses.

Bomber Command War Diaries has the following:

    14/15th August, 1940.

    FRANCE, GERMANY, HOLLAND

92 Blenheims, Hampdens, Wellingtons and Whitleys to various targets, including raids on 3 oil refineries in France. 2 Blenheims and 2 Whitleys lost.

Don’t think it’s much use to you.

I’m not sure but I think the photo is just representative of the pieces of wreckage which are up for sale. I think anything recognisable is being kept for display.

Personally, I have mixed feelings about this. As the crew were killed in the crash and Dutch civilians on the ground, it does seem to add to the “ghoul” factor. But the vendors are trying to start a museum, just not sure whether this is the right way to raise the money.

I did wonder about that as I wrote it but didn’t check.:o Thanks for the correction. Still think it would like nice in an RAF scheme.

Perhaps flypast are spending the money on their own Bassett? Not exactly a warbird in the same class as Sally B but nice nonetheless. I would imagine that operating any aircraft isn’t going to come cheap. Would be nice to see it in a Transport Command scheme.

An interesting suggestion. But if Key react the way they have to the threads which they have apparently found offensive, then I fear they may shut down the forum.

So, come on webmaster, can we please have a dialogue? As you can see most of the people asking questions are members who are among the most helpful and knowledgeable. A simple explanation of the reasons why you feel these threads had to be removed will almost certainly satisfy.

If the flypast sponsorship of Sally B was for a finite period of two years then fair enough. I think now the question must be what is to be done with the money no longer allocated to Sally B? Although we as enthusiasts have no say in how Key use their money (although their advertising policy seriously encourages us to spend our money with them) their profits are made in part by the money we spend every month on their publications. As loyal readers and supporters of the magazine perhaps we could expect clarification from Key on what is happening re sponsorship of Sally B? Or any other project which is being considered for sponsorship in its stead?
