I see your point, I just think it’s disrespectful, perhaps I’m just being oversensitive. Lancman is right about taking things for granted. Like anything else you take for granted, when it’s lost you don’t half miss it. And it can never be replaced.
It’s like when we were at the meet at Duxford and you, Neilly and I were in the hangar admiring and discussing the aircraft? Remember the guy racing round writing down the numbers? He didn’t see the aircraft at all, just the panel with the numbers on. No thought of what the aircraft did, those who flew them or anything other than jotting down his numbers. (Nothing against spotters as long as they actually see what they look at)
Nothing personal Alexis. If we didn’t have different views the world would be one hell of a boring place.

With respect, what are you talking about? The Lancaster is a 60 year old airframe, what do you expect from her? When you’re 60 I daresay there will be one or two things that it is inadvisable for you to do or that you are no longer capable of. Should you then be confined to a dusty museum as you’re of no further value?
As for the ‘so-called corkscrew’ that manouevre was carried out by aircraft with considerably less hours on the airframe and in desperate situations. Is one to assume you would be happy to see the Lancaster flown aggressively even if it meant the ultimate destruction of the aircraft?
I’m sorry, but I’m with Lancman on this one. As someone with the utmost respect for these aircraft and the exploits carried out by their crews, your comments beggar belief.

My own personal view is that the two are inextricably linked. The aircraft would not be what they are without the exploits of the crews and vice-versa. Yes, it’s nice to see an aircraft flown to its full potential but at the end of the day I would rather see a Lancaster or whatever aircraft you care to mention flown ‘sedately’ than not see one at all.
From an emotional standpoint, I cannot look at an historic aircraft without thinking about the crews who flew them and those who designed, built and maintained them. One is nothing without the other.

Why is it lame? Have you made any attempt to support your arguments with evidence? Google has. Or is it just that you don’t like what he has written? Provide concrete justification as to why America should invade Iraq. Give us the evidence as to the whereabouts of his weapons of mass destruction. Show us how close he is to producing such weapons with the intention of using them and you’ll find many people would then agree with America’s intentions.
As for the Iraqi people, if they are so dissatisfied under the present regime why don’t they rebel? Is there any kind of resistance movement currently opposing Saddam’s regime? I would have thought that if you wanted someone to fight with you or on your behalf, first you must fight for yourself.

America is not being truly altruistic in this matter, 99% of Americans couldn’t care less about the ordinary Iraqi because their plight does not impinge on the life of the ordinary American. We have all this rubbish about ‘we know Saddam has weapons of mass destruction’ but America is still unable, or more likely unwilling, to show one scrap of evidence. If they can prove he is a significant threat show the evidence now and watch how support for their actions would rise.
We had all this rhetoric about ‘the war on terror’ which has largely come to nothing. They haven’t sorted out Afghanistan with any degree of stability, they keep on ‘shall we, sha’n’t we bomb Iraq and they haven’t even found out who was responsible for the anthrax attacks on their own shores. America is doing nothing well and several things badly.
Iraq is not the only oppressive regime in the world, others already have weapons of mass destruction so can you please explain George Bush’s fixation with Saddam Hussein?

I think it will be soon.
It seems that the most powerful man on earth is to flex ‘his’ muscles whether any evidence is forthcoming or not. Does he fail to see that it is possible that a considerable quantity of ‘muscle’ is likely to return home in bodybags? And more importantly, does this concern him? While he’s playing John Wayne in Iraq he let’s the rest of the world fall apart around him.
