RE: The Washington Sniper —- Death???

    SOC,

“Regardless, the US Constitution specifically permits the death penalty. If no-one else finds it before I get home this evening I’ll post the relevant passage. Ergo, who cares what you think. We’re allowed to do it. Sniper Dad and his Bullet Boy are going to fry. Bottom line.”

??????? If you don’t care what anyone else thinks why have you entered the debate? If you’re so sure that the death penalty is the way to go you should be secure enough in your beliefs that you don’t have to rely on the ‘who cares what you think. We’re allowed to do it.’ defence.

“What about Adolf Hitler? Would you throw him in jail? Exile him? What?”

I may be wrong, but I believe he died some years ago.

“If you aren’t offering a solution, then sit down and be quiet. You’re entitled to your opinion, and most people here (including myself) will welcome them, but you have to offer something to the debate as well.”

Thank you, it’s kind of you to give me the opportunity. Now, first of all I support the death penalty for certain crimes such as multiple murder, terrorism, proven premeditated murder and certain crimes against children. I don’t think you can have a blanket death penalty for murder. For instance, a man beats his wife half to death regularly over a period of years it is understandable that she might snap and shove a knife in him. Circumstances have to be taken into consideration. There has to be incontravertible proof that the assailant is guilty. The method of execution should be as humane as possible. The taking of the perpetrators life should be enough.

“There’s my two cents. Place your bets as to how many people I just irritated }>”

    One?

RE: AFM forum not working again!

    Saab,

we must remember that on the previous occasion Vbulletin was introduced the whole forum fell into chaos. The webmaster may have been confident on the 11th of September but that confidence has not been translated into action. It was mooted that there may be a partial transfer but so far this has not happened. We’re having problems with the AFM forum at present, with Vbulletin we ended with an unwieldy and ultimately unworkable registration system and a forum that failed irrevocably. Do you not think it might be a case of ‘better the devil you know’? The other point is that AFm has failed on a weekend. Would it be any different if Vbulletin failed at a weekend as well? The webmaster has to have time off after all.

Perhaps the webmaster could provide us with another update on whether Vbulletin will still replace the well liked and, to me, user friendly, DCforum?

    Saab,

“Methinks that the new Vbulletin should be implemented soon.”

You mean the same Vbulletin which was implemented so successfully a few weeks ago?

    Nitram.

Thanks again. It is from the O.K.L. source that I have deduced that R5679 was indeed Leutnant Brandes victim. I suppose the next step is finding someone who can tell me whetther a combat report for this incident exists.

    RE: NJG 2 in Denmark.

    [updated:LAST EDITED ON 26-10-02 AT 08:34 PM (GMT)]Nitram,

Thanks for that. I also have the time as 02.13 and that the Lancaster which crashed in England was attacked by nightfighters twice and damaged by flak. R5679 impacted the ground near Gronhoj and the Danish press reported no anti-aircraft fire and the aircraft came to earth in flames. The time of 02.13 for the claim also gels with the Danish press report that the aircraft came down around 02.00 hrs. Therefore, I am inclined to believe that it was R5679 which was Leutnant Brandes victim.

Can you tell me, is it possible to access Luftwaffe combat reports?

    Thanks again.

RE: Firefighters to strike in UK

The threat of the firefighters strike and the danger it poses people has been graphically brought home to me today with a housefire in my street in which all the family have been injured. Firefighters entered the house in breathing apparatus and rescued everyone but the house is badly damaged. I live within two minutes drive of the fire station and their work as always is outstanding. However, I find it extremely worrying that if this had happened next week the fire might have been fought by inadequately trained and equipped soldiers who would have had to put their own lives at extreme risk to save the children.

So, I would have to say to the firefighters is an extra £6,000 a year really worth the suffering you are undoubtedly going to bring to the public? I can see a huge fire occurring with numerous casualties causing the Government to give in to their demands. If that happens, perhaps we should then treat our firefighters as the mercenaries they appear to want to become?

RE: The West responsability with the Third World

    Hi,

“However, there are certain nations on this world which suffer at our hands. Iraq for example, the innocent people are dying because the West wants to see an end to Saddam and won’t commit to supplying proper aid until he is out.”

So, in your opinion, the future for the Iraqi people lies in the west’s hands? Do you not think that if the Iraqi people were that dissatisfied with their lot that they would rise up in their millions and oust Hussein theirselves? Isn’t it a case of the better the devil you know?

“In Angola the West supported the civil war financially for some time and many lives were lost.”

But is it only the west? The former Soviet Union supported many third world regimes, not with food aid and health care but with weapons

“Europe and the US both have large stocks of food readily available which goes to waste year after year when it could be used to feed people in Africa…”

What about people in the US and Europe? Do you know how much malnutrition there is in Europe and the US? In the UK each winter thousands of old people die because they can’t afford to eat and stay warm. And because of that they become debilitated through not eating properly while trying to keep warm or are admitted to hospital with hypothermia. Can we at least get our own house in order before trying to save the world?

“…but it doesn’t get there because various powers that be do not agree with certain African leaderships, and so the people continue to starve.”

Wombat has already mentioned Mugabe’s advocation of the murder of white farmers and the redistriburion of land. I’ve got no problem with the redistribution of the land but in many cases the farm buildings are destroyed, those who worked the land are beaten and/or murdered and the land lies derelict with crops dying. What is the point of that? And why should we have any sympathy for a country which is doing that to itself?

    Regards,
