Would a NOTAR helo be less susceptible to a missile blowing off its tail than a helo with a tail rotor? I would expect the rotorless tail to at least provide some stability…?
Well, not a fighter jet, but that DHL Airbus over Iraq survived a Strela hit that took out a good portion of its left wing.
Gr8 pics.
The Maljutka anti tank missiles look like souped up Saggers?
stop trying to help your friend cheat on his assignment.;)
Ah, I knew someone here would know what it is. 🙂
Ah yes, overscan keeps a good page there.:)
Is Pero a Phased array radar or an optical feed distribution system?
Here’s more info- the media reports I read were misleading. Not really a flying boat, more like a hovercraft. ‘Scuse me, it’s Atlantic City not Philly area.
The Tupolev Aeroboat (N007), presented by Jerry Schulte of Clarksville, GA , makes its debut at the 2004 ACIPBS. This is the first time that the public will see this awe inspiring Russian naval vessel. Designed and built during the Cold War, the N007 was intended to rescue pilots from the vast reaches of the Arctic Circle. The eight-man hovercraft uses an air-start system that can operate at 60 degrees below zero, rather than a typical battery that can freeze at low temperatures. See the Tupolev Aeroboat in space M 56.
Nevermind then, they describe it as a hovercraft. It seems to be more like a hydrofoil though- able to float like a boat, and hover?
one more. Interesting, that looks like a Dell.
Could be a WIG, and the media mislabeling it. It’s going to a boat show in the Philly area.

Actually of the Argentine aircraft that were shot down in the Falklands all of them were using unguided bombs and getting in very close. The Super Etendards of the Argntine Navy were successful in sinking two ships, and they were never even engaged (by Sea Harriers or ship-based defenses) much less shot down.
They were so low that I believe they were only on radar at the moment they popped up to launch their Exocets.
I’m not saying this would be the case nowadays, but just making a point to your comment about the Falklands.
Yes, I think the Argentinians dropped several of their iron bombs much below the arming altitude, resulting in the bombs failing to explode and their getting shot down.
rugged like an unshaven cowboy.
Interesting- I would presume that the Chinese SD-10 is more akin to the R-77M, although surprisingly, the dimensions aren’t very much different. It supposedly has a lofted profile as well and better rocket motor.. Anyone have more specs on the -77M?
Interesting RoCAF version.
The updated Q-5D/E/Fs in PLAAF service can carry two 500kg LGBs and are believed to have a laser designation unit of sorts in the nose.
It’s a cheap rugged aircraft- probably won’t be a replacement for awhile.
