China has ordered the S-400 from Russia. The S-400 is able to intercept targets out to 400km. China is taking delivery of more and more advanced versions of the S-300 as well ordering the S-400. It is also building indigenous HQ-9s and FT-2000s. It is also rumored to be working with the Czechs and Ukrainians to develop anti-stealth technology.
China is using Chinese, Russian, Czech and Ukrainian technology to construct what will be the scariest long range SAM network in the world.
Source being what that they ordered the S-400?
Oleg Antonov was born near Moscow, but (googlegooglegoogle…) his former deputy and replacement of General Designer of the OKB, Pyotr Balabuyev, is a homegrown Ukrainian. Still, the Russians can feel satisfied that at least they have got the An-124 production line at Ulyanovsk.
Yesss? Someone called? 🙂
What’s going on with the An-70 exactly?
How do the 9M96E and 9M96E2 missiles fit into all of this?
Ouch that is so expensive.
Not really, it’s about the same when compared to the other contracts.
They’re getting twice as many batteries as in the previous orders; they’re getting 64 8×8 MAZ launchers with 4 missiles each, plus an additional reserve of 41 48N6E2 missiles. Plus there’s a bit of a price premium since it is a better system.
The 54K6E2 battle management post can control the S-300PMU and S-300PMU1 in operation around Beijing, making it more effective in uniting the air-defense networks.
History of Chinese S-300 ADS purchases;
1) First, in 1993 with S-300PMU comprising 2 missile battalions. A total of 32 launching units/trucks, with a double ammunition reserve of 5V55R (with radar homing warhead), and a software mod to allow the Favorit to control the 5V55R. Cost was $220 million, 65% through barter goods, and the rest in hard currency. So that’s 32x(4 missiles per truck), + 2x(32×4) = 384 missiles total + unknown local production?
2) Second contract in 1994, for 4 missile battalions of S-300PMU1s with 32 launch units, plus a reserve of 196 48N6E missiles. Hard currency paid for half, the other half through barter. Hmm, the Russians really like to barter. No info on extra ammunition reserves? Contract was about $400 million
3) Third contract, which just finished, cost about $440 million. 4 missile battalions of the S-300PMU1A third contract, with 32 launch units and a reserve of 198 48N6E missiles.
So that’s 384 5V55R missiles, and (256+196+198) = 650 48N6E missiles.
closing thread now; thread far too bloated.
Here’s a new interview with Peter Briggs, who claimed that Paul WSA does not have a director’s cut, that all the scenes in the movie were pretty much there.

That’s 5 fewer than mentioned in the previous report, IIRC. Over-estimation, or ones lost to attrition?
Flogger, stop flogging a dead horse.
Talk about living up to his name. 😀
Sigourney Weaver interested in doing another sequel!

I changed your title to read Il-76 rather than Il-75. 🙂
Is that a typo? 2600 hp?
What’s that? Cannon pods on the P-38 underwings?
The Lex never had it’s 1.1″ quads replaced before she was put down, and never had it’s twin 8″ turrets replaced either. So for all intents and purposes, what they have depicted here is the original Lexington. Just odd to see Hellcats flying off her, but cool as well. 🙂
Exactly! That’s what I said earlier- it’s not the Saratoga. 🙂

The support for Israel by the US has nothing to do with any Judeo-Christian(-Hindu) conspiracy against Islam. It is neither a support for the “good guys” (the Israelis) vs the bad guys (the Palestinians). In that fight, there is no one who is bereft of bloody hands.
Let’s put it plainly, as long as other Middle Eastern countries have leverage over the US via oil, the US will always use Israel as a leverage against them. It doesn’t matter if the Arab countries exercise that leverage or not (as in 75) but the US will not will not give up the leverage it has via Israel.
It’s not about right or wrong, good or bad, it’s all about “the game”.
Same with India. India supported, whole heartedly, the Palestinian and other Arab causes for 40+ years to Israel’s detriment. What did it get India? A big fat ZERO! Having good technical, political, and economic relations with Israel has borne more fruits for India in the last 10 years than the 40+ years of support India has given the Palestinians.
Plain and simple: having good relations with Israel has a higher RoI than with the Palestinians. Has nothing to do with bigotry, good vs. bad, Hindu vs. Islam. Just the way the world works.
Let’s try and talk about aviation here, or go discuss in the general discussion forum please.
