Somehow I don’t think that’s from the FC-1.
Welcome to the forum.
I remain eternally ignorant (as always!) on this, but surely that was whatsisname Carter?
Flood.™
I’m pretty sure it was Reagan and his astrology-lovin wife, Nancy.
Git your free 3×5 american flags in honor of Reagan’s death.
We can at least praise Reagan for promoting Jelly Beans. Those apolitical candies. 😉
Someone thinking you’re talking ballcocks, doesn’t make them anti-American. 😎
ballcocks? don’t you mean b-o-l-l-o-c-k-s?
They prefered “detante” [sic] rather than showing a little backbone.
I’m so glad Sauron knows how to spell.
Thanks for the info Khalifa330 on the current situation in Algeria. I’m glad to hear that the region there is much more stable now- I still remember reading the horrific articles of civilians being hacked to pieces by either militants or paramilitary groups.
Oh, so is there still an ongiong civil war in Algeria?
Credit cards are starting to use disposable one-time use credit card numbers associated with your account for online shopping.
where does Algeria get the funds to purchase nearly $2 billion worth of arms equipment? I was under the impression that their nation was still mired in a costly civil war?

Algeria’s MiG-29 order imminent
JON LAKE JDW Special Correspondent
London
Algeria is poised to finalise a contract to buy 49 upgraded multirole MiG-29 fighter aircraft from the Russian Aircraft Corporation MiG (RSK-MiG).
After long-running negotiations and a personal visit to Algeria in early May, MiG’s new general director, Valerii Toryanin, has now confirmed that the “epochal” $1.5 billion-$1.8 billion contract will be concluded “in the immediate future”. Nikolai Nikitin, MiG’s former general director, originally said the deal with Algeria was “imminent” late last year.
RSK-MiG will deliver 42 single-seat MiG-29s to Algeria, refurbished, returned to zero flying hours and upgraded to MiG-29SMT multirole fighter standard. RSK-MiG will also deliver seven MiG-29UBT combat-capable two-seaters. The latter may be new-build aircraft from the Sokol plant at Nizhny Novgorod, while the MiG-29SMTs will be converted from aircraft built in 1992-93 for Russia but never delivered.
The MiG-29SMT and UBT configurations were originally designed to meet Russian air force requirements for a MiG-29 upgrade. These add a genuine multirole capability, with a ground mapping Zhuk-MEh radar and compatibility with a wide range of advanced precision-guided weapons. The converted aircraft have a massive dorsal ‘saddle tank’, increasing fuel capacity.
The Algerian contract would mark a major boost for MiG, which for years has existed on the sale of a few basic MiG-29s, mainly to impoverished African nations, returning it to near parity with rival manufacturer Sukhoi.
It has been suggested that the deal may also result in the return of Algeria’s existing fleet of 30 MiG-29s and five MiG-29UBs. These were acquired from Belarus and Ukraine and were delivered, after refurbishment, from 1997. Other sources say that these may be returned for upgrade, allowing Algeria to replace its entire inventory of ageing fighters.
As of 31 May, neither RSK-MiG nor the Algerian government were prepared to comment on the deal.
Meanwhile, it appears that the 16 new-build MiG-29Ks ordered to equip India’s newly acquired aircraft carrier, the Gorshkov, may be manufactured by the IAPO plant at Irkutsk – a factory traditionally associated with Su-30 production – because MiG’s single-seat MiG-29 factory at Lukhovitskii no longer has the resources for new production.

I presume this is referring to an entirely new batch of aircraft, or is it confusing the MK3 order? Or as PiBu mentioned, there’s no such designation of MK3?

China seeking second batch of Su-30MK2s
JIANG JINTAO JDW Special Correspondent
London
China’s proposed acquisition of a second batch of 24 navalised Sukhoi Su-30MK2 multirole fighter aircraft is believed to be among the topics discussed during the visit to Moscow in May by Gen Liang Guanglie, the Chinese People’s Liberation Army chief of staff.
Beijing is due later this year to receive its first order of 24 navalised Su-30MK2s, manufactured by Sukhoi’s Komsomolsk-on-Amur Aviation Production Association; obtained mainly for their anti-ship capability. The first six were received in February (JDW 31 March) and another six will arrive shortly. Moscow-based sources told JDW that a follow-on order could be signed before year-end, with deliveries due in 2005-06.
China plans to order Kh-59ME (AS-18 ‘Kazoo’) anti-ship missiles fitted with a TV command guidance system together with the second tranche of aircraft, the sources said. The Kh-59ME is due to complete trials by 2005.
Gen Lian met with his Russian counterpart, Gen Anatoliy Kvashnin, on 18 May and subsequently held talks with Russian Defence Minister Sergey Ivanov.
No details of either meeting were released. However, a Russian defence ministry official told JDW: “A wide range of issues was dealt with during the talks relating to the current state and future prospects for co-operation between the two countries. [These included] supplies to China of modern Russian military hardware and the training of PLA personnel at Russia’s military schools.”
China and India are Russia’s main customers for military equipment. However, Beijing is increasingly interested in technology transfers and joint research and development activity in place of direct defence purchases.

I saw the ad for the plane- it’s quite impressive, although I wish the forestry service and smokey the bear would hurry up and get some Be-200s. I think the main complaint voiced so far with the 747s is whether they’d be able to fly low enough to disperse the anti-retardent chemicals.
Several games that I’m really looking forward to;
Soldner- play as mercs with all sorts of different weapons from different countries.
Codename:Panzer- Reminds me of the old Close Combat days, but much more beautiful.
Battlefield 2- not really a real hardcore type of game, but hey, you get to play as the US, Chinese, or Mid-East online, sounds like fun.
Sonalyst’s Dangerous Waters- sequel to their previous collaboration with Jane’s Fleet Command.
And 2 other RTS games- Rome-total war and Lord of the rings- battle for middle earth.
And cuz I’m such a junkie, 🙂
Star Wars Battlefronts.
