Is it just me or has this whole forum gone China mad? Even in the navy thread it’s China this and China that, give it a rest guys seriously, no wonder all the good guys left!

How can that be, Ja? Out of the 25 threads on the first page, 3 of them have something to do with China, 6-7 are on the RuAF, 1 is on India, 4-5 on the US, and a bunch of misc. items.

So why would you want a holographic HUD? The whole point of a hologram is to reveal different information from different viewing angles based on interference effects on creation. A bit of a misnomer perhaps?

The ‘image’ is projected up from underneath the HUD and (to a degree) ‘reflects’ off the glass so the pilot can see it. No real mirrors involved.

You need to take into account the aircraft’s angle of attack when assessing the pilot’s ‘view’. Would kind of defeat the purpose if the pilot had to look down all the time…

Attached is not the best of illustrations, but you can see the optics (the circular bit) that ‘project’ the image.

So basically, it’s like a standard overhead/projector which you place transparencies on that one might find at a university?
