Hmm, well the article was referring to the Su-30MKK, and it specifically mentioned ‘dielectric bands’.?? So I’m a bit clueless. Could be the same as on the Rafale?

Well, Kolchuga systems were never found in Iraq, so presumably that sale never happened. I’m always leery of ‘allegedly’ nowadays.
Right, just like the Kornets that knocked out US tanks.
The Kolchuga was presumably transferred to iraq, and allegedly 4 units were sold to China.
Well, I was reading that an additional way to tell the difference between a Su-27 and a -30MKK was the presence of horizontal dielectric bands on the vertical fins. I’ve never heard of this before.
I presume they mean these things on the fins?

Oh, that kind of sucks then.
Will the PAK-FA go ahead with Indian funding?
well, according to Tom Szulc’s article, the very last line states that ‘the idea to upgrade the Russian Mig-29s has been postponed indefinitely in favour of upgrading the Su-27.’ So not much going on on the domestic front, but the export modifications are pretty lively.

The Backfire is one of my favourites and upgrades are supposed to keep it perky well into the 2020s.
If the Badger and Stratofortress can keep soldiering on into the 21st century, it won’t be hard for the Backfire to do the same.
Here’s an interesting piece of news- the PLAAF order may only be for 200, and these may not be for domestic service, but rather as ” ‘white tails’- stored for eventual sale to export customers.”

The Feb. issue of MILTECH stated that the NIIP Panda radar is for the MKK2s, although I think it may be wrong. More likely the MKK3 batch, although, there hasn’t been any information about the MKK2 radar, besides being modifed to fire KH-31s.
12 aircraft to be delivered in 2006.
Just reading last month’s issue of MilTech, and it says that all avionics of Israeli origin will be eliminated. Sagem will supply the MFDs.
