Up until now, how much of FC-1 news has been officially reported by PAF? Did you not believe anonymous sources until now?

Actually, there is another report on acig from the same press conference with the AVM that mentions similar items- confirms the IFR capability.

And, if you’ve been following the reports, there have been offical news briefings, e.g. the ACM.

Of course not, but as I keep mentioning and various people keep conveniently ignoring, there is a second author on this article, who is a very senior writer himself, and who is well acquainted with the more technological aspects.

I guess Pakistanis would now accept that as a fact. 🙂

Do you have a link to that article, and evidence that she was indeed wrong?

Dr. Siddiqa has also written 3 other joint articles with other Jane’s correspondents in the past year that were published in JDW. Those reports did not have any errors.

And until someone addresses the issue of Mr. Gething acting as additional correspondent, who has written more than 1,000 articles for Jane’s, I am not convinced that the report is in error.

From other posts in other forums, the chief complaint seems to be that the good doctor is very negative in her writings of the PAF.

Dr. Ayesha has NO access to any “insiders” in armed forces of Pakistan rather her students have bluntly said that she herself admitted to them in class that ISPR and MoD have not given her any access to any military information.

From this article, it would appear that she had answers directly from AVM Lateef. Furthermore, there is additional reporting by Michael J Gething, who would appear to be an outside consultant not affiliated with Dr. Ayesha. So Ayesha is not the only source for this article.

    Gething has an impressive resume;

Michael J Gething has been an aviation/defence journalist and editor since 1973, when he joined the staff of the Royal Aeronautical Society’s publication Aerospace. In October 1976, he moved to DEFENCE magazine where he spent 17 years, eight of then as Editor, before joining Jane’s Information Group in December 1993 to edit Jane’s Defence Systems Modernisation . In 1997, this evolved into Jane’s Defence Upgrades. With the incorporation of JDU in International Defence Review in June 2003, he became IDR’s Upgrades Editor and began work on Jane’s Electro-Optic Systems.

    etc…

I’m sure Gething would know whether the FC-1 has an IRST or not, as he is in JEOS.

Really, according to some Pakistanis on Pakdef Dr. S appears to be credible. Who do you trust? It shouldn’t matter where her articles are published- are the articles accurate, or not?

I’m always continually surprised at how advanced the SA defense industry is.

here’s more information from a JDW article a few weeks ago.

    JANE’S DEFENCE WEEKLY – APRIL 21, 2004

    ——————————————————————————–

South African EW system for Malaysian Sukhois
    Helmoed-Römer Heitman JDW Correspondent
    Cape Town

The Malaysian government has placed an order with South African electronic warfare (EW) company Avitronics for Multi-Sensor Warning Systems ( MSWS) to be fitted to the Royal Malaysian Air Force’s 18 new Sukhoi-30MK fighters.

Work on the first two phases of the order, valued at $20 million, is to commence immediately. The first phase will focus on system engineering to fully integrate the MSWS with the aircraft. The second phase of about 18 months will see a prototype developed and the production systems manufactured.

The fully integrated MSWS comprises a radar-warning system able to handle multiple simultaneous pulse Doppler and continuous wave signals, a laser-warning system, a solar blind ultra-violet missile approach warning system that can track more than eight targets simultaneously and an EW controller with an integrated defensive aids computer.

It gives audio warning of threats and shows detailed data on either a dedicated colour display or an existing colour multi-functional display. Active jamming and chaff/flare dispensers can be integrated with the system to suit the threat environment.

The MSWS is modular to facilitate tailoring to specific requirements and budget levels and can be specified to provide full spherical coverage.

The system is supplied with Pre-Flight Data Compiler and Flight Data Analyser software tools that enable the operator to tailor the system to suit the developing threat environment.

A memory-loading unit allows software to be loaded and unloaded on the flight line and various pre-flight data sets can be loaded and selected in flight as a mission proceeds. All relevant data is recorded during the mission for later downloading and analysis.

Well, the ION engine takes awhile to build up its speed, so that would require spotting the NEO well in advance to launch the craft to divert it.
