Really? Why do you think 100kms range is peanuts?
Which current Naval SAM system can reliably engage targets out to 100km range? There are a few, but not that many. Very few Frigate or Destroyer sized vessels have SAMs in that range class. How many frigates and destroyers are there in the world compared to missile Cruisers and aircraft carrier sized vessels?
Well, the PLAN would undoubtedly be using its missiles to engage US forces, which have long range SAMs and fighter cover. Also, evasive maneuvers by target ships will force you to launch a little closer, increasing vulnerability. Now tell me Garry, wouldn’t you rather have a 200km ASM than a 100km one, whilst a big SM-2’s rocketing towards you?

Supposedly, one of Turkey’s objections to the Erdogan is that there are no existing prototypes, only the mockup.
depends- if the jsf program keeps getting delayed, then the ef-2000 may be welcomed instead.
Adding to that article, with another one from Jane’s IDR March 11, the JSF is ‘gaining weight and losing time.’
– First flight already delayed from 2005 to 2006.
– CTOL/CV overweight by 630kg, STOVL by 1000kg.
– Why is it heavier? Initial estimates were done using the F-22 as a guideline, and the “F-35’s internal configuration is rather unique.”
I think the 3rd and 4th examples look much better than the others.
nice writeup.
Let’s hope Paul Anderson doesn’t screw things up, or else that’ll leave no room for Alien 5 with Ridley friggin Scott.

Actually, 13 tests were conducted since ’95. The USN is considering buying more from R&G International.
The USN successfully intercepted MA-31 drones during tests.
Still, 100km is peanuts for an ASM. I thought the Mod 2 version was 200km?

The lack of Russian fire control system is reinforced in the pictures, which does not show the J-10 carrying any sort of Russian AAMs like R-73 or R-27s, both of which are abundant in PLAAF inventory.
I don’t think the pictures really reinforce that- all we’ve seen is that the J-10 can carry PL-8s and drop tanks. Based on that, it could be carrying some basic fcr suite for all we know.

Looks like both the IAF and PLAAF are spendthrifts. 🙂
sounds like the pilot was telling some tall tales to impress his lady friend for some nookie.;)

I’m pretty sure the Kh-59MK is already finished with development. Whether it’s been delivered is another story.
