Iskry regularly take part, as does the occasional Magister and JP. I’ve also seen T-33s race there, but I believe they’re now banned due to controllability issues. But you’re correct in that the field is made up mainly of L-29s and L-39s. There are less L-29s than there were due to concerns over the safety of some of the ‘big-engine’ conversions that were being done a few years back.
It would have been a lot easier if they’d have just built the bloody thing with proper doors in the first place
People are too accepting of this kind of behaviour sometimes. I’d have just switched the engine off, folded my arms, and said “that’s fine, I’ll wait here then.”
A shame it didn’t fly last weekend, as its booking was cancelled by Duxford. 🙁
I understand that the IWM were asking a considerable sum of money in return for naming rights to the B-17, which is why it has been left as a blank canvas since its restoration.
Not sure how you could make the last flight in secret!
Indeed. But then it was posted by WH904, very little he posts makes much sense, this included.
It’s going to become a racer.
No it isn’t. That started as an ‘in joke’ on Facebook and has now seemingly been accepted as the Gospel truth.

Who knows what will happen to the F-100. It was on the IWM’s disposals list (along with the T-33) but I understand that the proposed new home for them was not acceptable to the USAF Museum (who own the airframes) as it is not a fully-accredited museum.
There will be a lot of money spent in coming years on a new entry area to the site, new cafeteria, replacement of the ‘Milestones’ exhibit by a ‘RAF Today’ display, and hopefully generally tarting up the rest of the site (as was done for one end of the BoB Hall a couple of years back)
I would suspect that the rights to the tour DVD were pre-sold as part of the funding to make the trip happen in the first place. On that basis I wouldn’t expect anyone else will be producing their own DVD
So, a question for all, with limited funds would you choose to spend them on a lick of paint for the building or dragging the only surviving Do17 out of the briny?
Much of the funding for the Dornier recovery was raised specifically for that purpose, without the Dornier, there would have been no money to spend in Homebase on pots of paint and rollers instead.
The ongoing workshop resource required to conserve the Dornier is a different matter altogether…
Isn’t that the same with all advertising?
And how many minutes a year does it spend ‘roaring overhead’ compared with the time it spends on the ground, in front of the public?
It hasn’t, and as it has sat for a decade in that state now I think it is unlikely that it will fly, at least under present ownership.
