I’ve been surprised the Vulcan isn’t booked for Duxford in September

I’m not. Why would they? It is a Battle of Britain-themed show and will undoubtedly sell out in advance on the promise of dozens of Spitfires (both original and new-build) attending. Why would they spend a significant sum on an attraction when they don’t need to attract more people?

Very nice! That must be the first DB-engined 109 to grace Duxford since Black 6 was turned into Black 9.

Nothing whatever to do with Planes of Fame. It was restored by Aero Trader for Rod Lewis. Nice to see one back in the air for the first time since the loss of the CAF’s example in 1988.

I wonder what will happen to the RAF Museum’s proposed acquisition of one now that Precision Aerospace in Australia appear to be no more.

I’m pretty sure it appeared last year as well.

I still think he used 1/48 roundels on a 1/72 kit!

I wasn’t aware we had implemented Islamic law in the UK. Or does it just apply here on this forum?

Is the Shark mouth P51 new to the UK register, or was in another guise before?

It has been in Europe for almost 30 years, usually painted as ‘Old Crow’, but on the U.S. registry as N167F. It was put on the UK register a few months ago.

Yes, it’s really sad how nothing whatsoever is being purchased, restored or preserved in the UK nowadays.

That’s the windbreak brigade sorted then, now to do something about those who attend wearing loud Hawaiian shirts!

Will it soon be paintstripped and highly polished, I wonder? 🙂

That’d be great. Keep out all the rabble, hoi polloi, Sun readers and Vulcan fans. You know, the sort of people who put up their little windbreak forts along the fence and reserve their own personal space to the exclusion of everyone else

Although sadly it is unlikely to happen, I think that doubling the price and halving the number of tickets would be a great idea. Rather like Goodwood, where the price for a three-day ticket is around £145 I believe. ‘The right crowd, and no crowding’

Well, if it says it in the Mail, it must be true. Unfortunately I must have missed that, not being a reader of that much estimed and highly respected journal.

Is the value in the history in terms of original parts count, or in terms of the way you tell the story? A recent auction leaves that question wide open.

Even more pertinently, it should raise an interesting curatorial dilemma for a National Collection that has continually stressed the absolute originality of its Mk I Spitfire, only to find itself gifted another one, with somewhat less original content. Or will it simply be a case of ‘The Emperor’s New Clothes’?

Surely you’re not suggesting they fly it all the way to China?
