Great pics Trident!! If one notes how the under-fuselage arcs upwards immediately aft of the nose wheel bay doors, I wonder if that was where the rumoured internal bay was to be fitted:

A real show-stopper would be an MBDA ‘Meteor’ counterpart.
In other news, Russian UAV specialists ‘Kronstadt’ (producers of the Dozor UAV series) will present a new, high-speed VTOL UAV @ MAKS. Here is the patent drawing for an apparently similar design by JSC ‘Transas’:

But of all the potential new designs the Japanese are going to come out tops provided they don’t get railroaded into another U.S. Product

Ermmm…..fan art aside the real demonstrator has a forward fuselage that isn’t chined enough, the canopy currently has no stealth shaping and the tail looks like a ridiculous afterthought. In fact, it looks so lightweight it could be a trainer:
The YF-23 retains the beauty title, but I think the ‘Stage -2’ T-50 will close the looks ‘deficit’.
In my humle opinion, VVS’s Hellducks is the most potent platform for a tactical bomber/striker role among these. It is bound the get New and better systems along the way.
Yeah, sometime next decade it might get a TI targeting pod :highly_amused:……..meanwhile:
I don’t see Indian purchases as effecting T-50 development, simply because their money contribution has been so far aimed specifically at FGFA. T-50 development has been essentially entirely Russian funded from the start- and the procurement table reflects development (as well domestic economic) limits, not foreign bulk-buys.
The Russian government, OAK & Sukhoi have been chasing 2 successive Indian governments now for several years to sign on the dotted line and release da ca$h. Imho, the failure to do so probably played a major role in Pogosyan being sacked as head of OAK.
Russia gov is very confident of completing all military military projects much better than any one else on this planet.
Oh yeah, my bad. I forgot the insignia on his mini-sub is that of………SPECTRE.

Yes. Very good. Suffice to say for example that the EF can spiral climb forcing the MKI to pass the post stall edges where time of maneuvering is counted.
I have always assumed that the Sh would pleased the IAF for its high Alpha potential.
EJ-200’s T/Dr & T/Wr outperform F414-400 and the performance advantage over the AL-31F is much greater. If EJ-230 ever happens the gap will widen yet further.
If you bear in mind the EJ-200 has a fairly high bypass ratio of 0.4:1 and yet has such outstanding supersonic performance @ high altitude – this is testament to the superlative aerodynamics of the Eurofighter and no SH or Su-30MKI can match that.
The CPI inflation has averaged 16% this year, but more importantly it is the interest rate that is relevant – currently their CBR (base rate) is @ 11%.
There was no state funding for the Su-35S programme, it was privately funded by OKB Sukhoi/KnAAPO who took out a hefty bank loan and are now passing on the debt servicing costs to the consumer (the RuAF).
You’re entitled to your opinions Mr. Austin, but I take issue with your post on several counts. Firstly, I think you’ll find that my posts often contradict what PiBu prints so I’m not basing any of my posts about the Type-30 on his articles.
Secondly, you make it sound as if Type-30 development only started yesterday – this is patently not the case as my MMPP Salyut journal (from friggin’ 2007!!) linked above clearly attests -which evidently you made no attempt to read/translate.
The Type-30’s 5 stage HP compressor is most likely already up in the air, probably mated with Salyut’s KND-924 3-stage LP BLISK. The combustor and turbine sections are reportedly ready, though nothing is currently known about the status of the PMC shroud.
The definitive Type-30 3-stage LP compressor’s lead developer is ‘NPP Motor’ -LP comp specialists since they cloned the Rolls-Royce Nene’s centrifugal compressor for the Klimov VK-1.
Now let me let you into a little secret: NPP Motor’s & UGATU’s new high-temperature aluminium BLISKs (a World first for a low-bypass military turbofan), will shortly go for acceleration and endurance testing at their GTP-953 test rig. Once it passes these it will be released to NPO Saturn for integration:
This timeline coincides nicely with the ‘insider’s’ assertion that the new engine is promised for one of the later ‘Stage 2’ PAK-FA prototypes.
I’m confident the clean-sheet design and revolutionary materials’ solutions of the Type-30 will overcome the 23% dry thrust performance deficit the 117 currently has to the F119-PW-100. If you think the Russian and Indian air forces will happily live with this shortfall (including implications for AC power generation etc.)- you are wrong.
Actually, no. Where’s the step in diameter between the last LPC stage and first HPC stage, if we are to believe these are the combined HP & LP shafts of a turbofan? Whatever engine it belongs to, IMHO this is a HP spool only with 10 compressor stages and a 2 stage turbine (note how even the second stage appears to wear a thermal barrier coating, which would be fairly unusual for a LP turbine rotor). Pretty much the only Russian engine that fits the pattern would be the D-30F6.
Speaking of which, a variant of this power plant was a candidate for what would become the Su-27 (designated D-30F9) – anybody know specifics on how it differed (stage counts, pressure ratio, nozzle design etc.)?
You may well be right. The pic in question comes from NPO Saturn’s May 2014 company publication (page 3), an article which is primarily concerned with marine and industrial turbines:
http://www.npo-saturn.ru/i_dload.php?fid=3575&slang=0
Having said that, the AL-31F-M3 is confirmed as 3LP; 6HP; 1HPT; 1LPT, by the then Managing Director of MMPP Salyut, Yuri Elisiev. So without proper confirmation it’s pure speculation how advanced (or not) the 117 is relative to the FM-3.
It is also noteworthy that although the FM-3 is described as ‘from the same family as’ the AL-31F-M1, it is a very different animal by design. Similar analogies have been made about the 117/117S.
Incidentally, NPO Saturn’s 5-stage HP compressor for the Type-30 successfully completed standalone installation tests @ CIAM on 15th May 2013.
So it’s a fairly safe assumption it has commenced flight trials in a suitably modified engine aboard T-10M ‘710’.
