Well, it’s a good thing that it will be restored, who will carry out the work?
As this is also a very recent recovery, what more can we expect from India regarding wrecks. A few years ago (in the early WWW-forum days IIRC) a photograph was posted showing a Spitfire wing and a Hurricane wing alongside in the grass. Weren’t there some Mk XVIII Spits still missing or rumoured in Inda.

Wouldn’t that spinner look very much out of place on a Spit?

Yes, that too, or have they fitted a Burmese Spitfire tail?
:D:D

Hi Mark,
It appears that indeed the fuselage from the firewall aft to just in front of
the tailfin is original Firefly with the rest made up, although the tailfin resembles a Firefly as well.
Over to the experts.

Finally Handley Page, thanks BSG-75
There was a saying that since WWI the RAF never was without a Handley Page aircraft type. O/400, V/1500, Hyderabad, Heyford, Hampden, Halifax, Victor, need I say more?

Don’t worry, the department I work for is known in Holland as: Transploft
Our Dutch forumites know what I mean:D

About some airframes that seem to be under restoration forever.
TE517 and PP972 readily spring to mind. On one side we are scraping the barrel and on the other some airframes (NH238 also being one) nothing seems to be done.

Any pics taken during the recovery?

So there are no “frame five specials” anymore?
Great thread, thanks Mark for the explanation.

In Aeroplane Monthly there’s a pic showing the straps without any padding, brutal!

Looking great Peter,
Any trouble with spare parts or can you use items from the X or XX-series?
Cheers

Peter,
The Haringvliet is in the Netherlands but a F100 in 1945
would be a bit futuristic.
Interesting though.

IIRC Mark 12 said before that Spitfires do not have a dataplate. So you could
look everywhere for one but never find it, as it’s just not there/
Am I correct?

These pics are fascinating to look at but every wreck has it’s own tragedy to tell. Probably were collected at the various zerlegebetriebs in France and by train to Germany to be melted down.
Keep them coming.
